Log Cabin Quilt Wall Hanging

Update:  This item has sold!

Newly listed in my Etsy store, BusyHandsQuilts, is this striking log cabin quilt wall hanging.  The border is made from half-square triangles with a twist - the darker triangles are made from two fabrics!  They were leftover blocks from a different project and found their home around four log cabin blocks.

Star Struck Quilt

Here is the Star Struck quilt half quilted.  I began the blocks several years ago and never finished them {gasp}.  There are about 160 of these blocks, and it takes four to complete a Star Struck block, so I have enough for at least three crib-sized quilts.  The blocks are all assembled, and I am squaring them up as I need them, a very necessary step as I was not a very neat quilter back then.

I began quilting this using straight-line quilting, which I have never done before on a quilt of this size.  My terrific old Bernina has a foot attachment with an adjustable guide for sewing straight lines.  The more I learn about her extra feet, the more I love her!  I am finding I am really enjoying this new way of quilting as my usual way of quilting a quilt is random stipple, and I also really like the effect of the straight lines.  However, I plan to get a walking foot for my sewing machine before I finish this project to make it easier.

These are the leftover triangles from the corners of the individual blocks.  I am sew glad I took the time to sew the extra line of stitching to create them!  These are being used as a top border in the quilts.

Sports Quilt

A look down memory lane and how far I have come in my quilting!  I made four of these quilts for my boys and two nephews about seven years ago.  They are quilted very simply with X's in the squares and measure about 40" square.  The back is a very cozy coordinating flannel.  I'm thinking these will make very nice playmats for my grandbabies some day - lots of variety to keep them cross-eyed!

Sports-Themed Fabric Squares

I continue to list fabrics as I do a bit of spring cleaning in the bulging fabric closet.  You'll find these awesome sports-themed squares in my Etsy store

I made quilts from these for my boys and two of my nephews several years ago.  I'm hoping to see grandchildren wrapped in them someday!  They were some of my first quilts!  I'll show one to you tomorrow!

My current Work In Progress is a Star Struck Quilt out of bright colors.  You can find the pattern HERE at Quiltville.  Below is a picture of what it looks like finished, but mine doesn't have black in it.  That's what I've been up to.  What have you been working on?

Update:  This item has sold!

I have completed the "All Roads Lead Home" quilt top and will be selling it as a quilt top rather than quilting it and finishing it myself.  My long-arm quilt machine needs a few repairs, and I don't know how long they will take, so I am unable to quilt this myself at this time.  You can see her on Etsy at BusyHandsQuilts!

Red and White Table Runner

Update:  This item has sold!!

Just listed in my Etsy store is this charming red and white table runner

This is the first quilt I have machine bound without pinning it all around, and it worked fabulously!  (Thanks to who ever's blog I read this tip on!  I can't remember where I read it!)  The binding looks even better/smoother than those I have pinned, and I'm thinking it is because the pins make bumps in the fabric, and this affects the smoothness of the binding.

Red and Cream Log Cabin Quilt

My latest quilt is a cheerful red and cream log cabin table runner.  I did not make the blocks; I purchased them off eBay several years ago.  They weren't made very well, so when I squared them up the outer logs ended up a bit wonky.  You can see some logs seem to wave.  The binding is a fabric I got from a box of quilting fabric my mom got for me at a yard sale.  A huge box of quilt-shop quality fabric for $10!!  Sorry, this one is not for sale, but you can come see it at my house!
