Gray Matters Full Size Quilt - A Graduation Gift for My Niece

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I've finally completed the graduation quilt for my niece.  It started out with only the Gray Matters fabric collection, but I ended up adding other yellows and grays from my LQS for more variety.  I found the inspiration for this quilt HERE.
Gray and Yellow Full Size Brick Quilt
I'm fairly certain I got the colors just right for my niece.  We were at a baby shower together recently, and she gave the mom-to-be a baby blanket in these exact colors, polka dots and all!!

I couldn't get a good picture of the loopy quilting.

Sunny Bricks - A Gray and Yellow Baby Quilt

I had fun making this sunny gray and yellow modern baby quilt.  The fabrics are the Gray Matters collection along with various other grays and yellows from my local quilt shop.
Gray and Yellow Baby Brick Quilt
I call leftovers "lay-EF'-toe-furs" to give them a sophisticated French flair.  This sunny quilt is made from lay-EF'-toe-furs from a graduation quilt for my niece.  No, you didn't miss that post, because I haven't finished that quilt yet!  It is on Mrs.Singer's rails being quilted.

More lay-EF'-toe-furs in the backing.

I can see this quilt with a delicious baby playing on it, eyes crossed while trying to focus on the busy patterns.
Gray and Yellow Baby Brick Quilt
Straight-line quilting is not my favorite to do, but this modern quilt seemed to ask for it.

Patchwork Spring Promise Baby Quilt

Spring Promise is such a sweet baby quilt!
Spring Promise Baby Quilt
The quilt is basic patchwork squares bordered by a strip of yellow fabric with pink/purple roses with an outer border of smaller patchwork squares.  I used MissouriStarCo's method of making four-patches from charm squares which is in this Quilting Quickly magazine.  Pretty nifty!  I believe this is my favorite quilting magazine series ever!

    Girls 14/16 Modest Skirt with Apron Overlay

    Modest girls skirts are so hard to find these days, so I sometimes end up making them for my daughter.  She is growing up and no longer fits into girls sizes, much to the budget's dismay. {Sigh.}
    I was informed yesterday that she doesn't really want me sewing clothes for her anymore.  Oh, really?  I was a bit taken aback!  I reminded her of tiered skirts made with upcycled denim jeans, and she said those were okay.  In fact, she was in the fabric closet today picking out what she wanted for her next two tiered skirts!  Then there's the knit skirt I made her about a month ago using one of her store-bought skirts as a pattern, and that one was acceptable.  I think what she means is that skirts like this one are OUT, mom.  Not everything you make, just the younger girlish ones.  Yes, I made this for her, and she didn't like it, so it is going in my Etsy shop to sell.  :{

    • Length:  27"
    • Fabric:  England Swings and Flower Sugar, with unknown polka dot; all quilt-shop quality
    • Value:  Cheerily feminine!
    This skirt is for sale in my Etsy shop, BusyHandsQuilts.  This skirt is a one-of-a-kind skirt, and I will not be making another one in this size and fabric combination.

    There are two larger squares of the focus fabric because it is so cute that I didn't want to cut it too small.
