Dogwood Trails Small Lap or Baby Quilt

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I'm loving working with Dogwood Trails, a line of fabric from Sentimental Studios for Moda Fabric.  The sweetest dogwood blooms blend perfectly with shades of pink, blue, sage green, and white.  You can see the entire fabric collection at Threadbias.  I love using their site to find fabric coordinates.
This quilt is 100% from my stash, and I've still got a ton of it left!!  I can't wait to make more super sweet quilts with it!
Dogwood Trails Lap Quilt
The pattern is a Giant Log Cabin block, inspired by a quilt found on My Quilt Infatuation.  Lately, when I find a pattern I like, I have been pulling out fabrics and making it within a day or two rather than waiting forever or not making it at all!  Which is a good thing!  Oh my, you should see the list of quilt patterns I have bookmarked on my computer with hopes to make someday - it takes 11 seconds for the computer to scroll down through them all, there are so many - hundreds!!
Dogwood Trails Lap Quilt
The center green piece was just too yummy to cut up!

Two rows of strips from the front mixed with Rose Parade from Moda complete the backing.

1930s Repro Disappearing 16-Patch Table Runner

Hailing from March of 2011, another QIP has been completed!  These blocks were made for a Quilt-Along over at Happy Quilting, called the Original Happy Quilting Quilt-Along.
1930s Repro Disappearing 16 Patch Table Runner
The main block is a disappearing 16-patch made from 5" squares.  The 16-patch is cut in half diagonally and then sewn together with a half of a different 16-patch block, and then corner strips and triangles are added.  This result of this method is that the points do not match at the corners of the disappearing 16-patch block.  I do like matchy-matchy corners, but since I know it isn't a mistake, I can deal with it.
1930s Repro Disappearing 16 Patch Table Runner
Made entirely from my stash ... hurray!!  Although I have been completing a lot of UFOs lately, it hasn't yet made a visible dent in my fabric closet.  It's no small closet ... it's a walk-in!  One side is my clothes, and the other two walls are fabric and batting on shelves from floor to ceiling ... a 9-foot ceiling!  The fabric acts as insulation, and the closet is warm in the winter and cool in the summer, even without its own air vent!  But I digress.
1930s Repro Disappearing 16 Patch Table Runner
The backing is made from strips of coordinating fabrics in the middle of two pieces of sunny yellow.  The binding is the same sunny yellow print as the backing.  That yummy yellow is from the quilt shop {that used to be} around the corner from my house ... where I planned to work one day a week when my kids got old enough ... sigh ... the store went out of business before I had the opportunity.

Quilt Stats:
  • Pattern:  Disappearing 16-Patch from Happy Quilting
  • Size:  21" x 54"
  • Fabric:  Quilt-shop 1930s reproduction fabrics, I believe Judie Rothermel was the designer of all but the yellow fabric
  • Batting:  100% cotton
  • Quilting:  Allover small meandering in cream thread
  • Binding:  Double fold with mitered corners, attached by machine
  • Value:  Sunny and cheery!

Mrs.Starlight - A Queen Quilt for My Living Room Wall

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I am updating my living room decorations.  Here is a peek at the corner of the quilt that will hang on the HUGE wall.  It is so big that nothing could fill it other than a QUILT, of course!  {Although DH says that a moose head would look really nice there!}
This quilt was actually begun in the spring of this year, but was set aside because it was too wintry to be working on in the spring and summer!  It will be perfect for winter decorations in the living room.  I am also making quilted valances for the six windows and at least one table topper.  {And that black seam that looks crooked below is hiding its straightness behind a wrinkle.}
Mrs.Starlight
Mrs.Starlight is on the living room floor, layered with backing and batting, heading out to Mrs.Singer's rails for her time of glory there.  She was put on the quilt rails on Friday, and Saturday I began quilting her when a belt on Mrs.Singer broke.  No worries.  They are easy to replace ... if you have a spare one, which I don't! It is a good thing I am not planning on entering this quilt { or any quilt } into the Blogger's Quilt Festival happening right now!  I would be freaking out!
Mrs.Starlight is made from the Artful Home collection by Heather Mulder Peterson for Henry Glass Fabrics in the Starlit Evening pattern, also by HMP for Anka's Treasures.  The pattern can be found in her book, Living Large 2.

Two Thimbleberries Scrappy Star 'n 9-Patch Quilts

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Two Thimbleberries scrappy stars in the nine patch quilts were finally bound today - a table runner and a wall hanging or table centerpiece.  I've been working on a very big queen-sized quilt for my living room wall {you'll see that on Monday!}, so these quilts sat around for a few days before being bound ... {gasp!}.  That was after the blocks sat in my fabric closet for well over a year, waiting for their chance to shine.  See, when I make blocks, I tend to make three times as many as I need, and the remaining blocks are banished to the fabric closet for at least a year, it seems!

Old Fashioned Pastel Patchwork Baby Quilt

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

... Traditional patchwork quilt ...
...Old-fashioned sweetness ...
Old Fashioned Pastel Patchwork Quilt
Unrolling a Little Stars jelly roll from Connecting Threads revealed a few pastels mixed in with mostly dark, primitive colors which did not coordinate with the light fabrics at all.  So I pulled out the pastel strips, 14 in all since I had two jelly rolls, and looked for a pattern that used that few strips in the quilt books on my shelf.

Quilts Made with Love had a pattern that would work with so few jelly roll strips.  I began making the quilt and realized I had enough strips leftover to fill some of the white space in the pattern, and thus the strip blocks were made in place of the mostly white blocks with a few colored squares.

Old Fashioned Pastel Patchwork Quilt
I really don't care much for the colors myself, but I do love the old-fashioned look of yesteryear with the simple pattern and simple fabrics.  My daughter, Millie, told me she thought it was "beautiful!" which encouraged me to press through and finish it.  She repeated this to me several times and said it again when she saw it finished.  Thank you, sweetheart!
Old Fashioned Pastel Patchwork Quilt
Most quilts have a definite repeat to the block layout so they look finished on all edges ... this isn't one of those quilts.  The layout forced me to step out of my narrow-minded thinking, because to me, this quilt looks unfinished on the top and right sides.  Perhaps the continuous yellow binding {as opposed to scrappy binding} finishes it off nicely and gives it continuity.
Old Fashioned Pastel Patchwork Quilt
True to my fabric-buying moratorium, this quilt was made entirely from my stash, backing and all.  The backing is leftover from a custom lap-sized 30s Barn Raising I made earlier this year.
Old Fashioned Pastel Patchwork Quilt

  • Pattern:  A variation of Bitsy Baby from Quilts Made With Love
  • Size:  40" square
  • Fabric:  Little Stars by Connecting Threads
  • Batting:  100% cotton
  • Backing:  Connecting Threads Ice Cream stripe
  • Binding:  Double fold Moda yellow and white stripe, attached by machine with mitered corners
  • Quilting:  Allover small meandering in white thread on Mrs.Bernina, my old 830 which was my grandmother's
  • Value:  Old-fashioned charm!
