Grand Illusion Mystery QAL {Fabric Selection}

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I'm participating in the Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt-Along hosted by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville!  What is the pattern, you ask?  I've no idea; it's a mystery!

These are my fabric selections, minus the grays in the top row.  My expert color coordinator, my 13-year-old daughter, recommended leaving the grays out for more boldness.  Whenever I have a color question, I ask for her advice, and she has never led me astray yet!  I was using the grays to fill in for blacks but decided to order a few more black dottie dots instead of using grays.

Fabric colors and yardage requirements can be found here.  The first mystery clue was revealed yesterday, and I've cut the strips for the first block.  I'm waiting on the Easy Angle template to arrive before cutting the strips further.  It is really different to pick a fabric and cut it when its location in the quilt or what the quilt pattern even looks like is unknown!  The only information given in this clue is what colorway to use and what to do with it.

DOTS!!

These fabrics are from the Craftsy 2013 Block of the Month Kit I purchased last year!  Can you believe I am not using the kit for the project?  {GASP!} I find Craftsy quilt kits are a great way to build the stash even if I don't care for the quilt pattern that it goes with or I don't get around to making it before needing the fabric for another project which is what happened with this kit.  I first posted about this fabric back in April.

King-Sized Phoebe's Flower Box Quilt Set +++ Craftsy and AccuQuilt Sales!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

As of January 2018, I currently have a twin quilt and a baby quilt for sale in these exact fabrics and pattern.  View my quilt shop to see them.

Phoebe can finally be revealed here after delivering her to my sister last week!  I finished Phoebe last month, but I wanted my sister to see the finished quilt in person, not in pictures on the blog.

This quilt is shown on a queen-sized bed.  When I showed it to my sister last week, there was a king-sized bed available to lay it on, and it fit generously with a large overhang - just what we were after!

If you would like a custom quilt in most any pattern and fabric, please contact me!  I received three new custom orders yesterday, but January's schedule is not yet full.

There are two king-sized pillow shams, quilted on the front with envelope openings on the back.  I don't have king-sized pillows to put in the shams, unfortunately.

The backing is the gorgeous navy blue flower burst from the Phoebe collection.

Quilt Stats:
  • Pattern:  Phoebe's Flower Box, found in an issue of Quilting Quickly magazine that is no longer available.  The video can be found on Missouri Quilt Co's YouTube channel.  I modified the block size from 6" to 8" to make the project go a little faster.
  • Size:  110" x 110"  She's huge!
  • Fabric:  100% Phoebe by Another Point of View for Windham Fabrics
  • Batting:  Cotton
  • Quilting:  Allover medium meandering stitch in gray thread on Mrs.Singer, my 31-15 with a patent date of 1896.
  • Value:  Stunning for my sweet sister!

Happy Ooh La La Baby Security Blanket

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Another WIP from the closet found the light today!  The stack of Ooh La La fabrics is whittling down with enough for one more baby quilt.
This is a smaller baby quilt than I usually make.  The idea came from a custom order request for a smaller quilt that is easier to drag around.
Happy dizzy-making backing!
Quilt Stats:
  • Pattern:  Simple blocks
  • Size:  30" square
  • Fabric:  Ooh La La by Pillow & Maxfield for Michael Miller, quilt top, backing and binding.
  • Quilting:  Allover small-to-medium meandering stitch in white thread.
  • Binding:  Double fold, attached by machine.
  • Batting:  Cotton
  • Value:  Drag-me-along cuteness!

Thimbleberries Log Cabin Table Runner in Mauve

This sweet log cabin table runner is the next UFO to surface!  The four log cabin blocks were already completed and just needed a border and finishing.
She's made mostly from Thimbleberries with a few other fabrics tossed in for variety, all from the stash!
This table runner quilt is generously sized at 18" x 53".
The pretty backing makes her reversible!
Quilt Stats:
  • Pattern:  Log Cabin with wide scrappy bricks border.
  • Size:  18" x 53"
  • Fabric:  Thimbleberries with a few other quilt-shop coordinates, including Robert Kaufman and Lecien Floral Collection
  • Batting:  Cotton
  • Quilting:  Allover small meandering stitch in cream thread on Mrs.Bernina, my old 830 which was my grandmother's.
  • Backing:  Main floral from Robert Kaufman and sage green floral from Lecien Floral Collection.
  • Binding:  Scrappy leftovers.
  • Value:  Adorable and cozy!

Simply Style Lap Quilt Progress

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

As part of my finishing projects kick, this Simply Style lap quilt was put on the rails today.  I'm quilting her with a side-to-side minimal wave stitch, an idea I got from a quilt in the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  This quilt was begun in September, so it's not that old of a project.  I usually quilt lap and bed-sized quilts right after completing the top, but this one did sit around a bit.  There are two twin quilt tops awaiting quilting, a sweet pastel rainbow completed in the spring of this year which I did not blog about and a Nana's Garden Basket Quilt from over two years ago!  I can't count the number of quilt blocks and tops begun and not finished, though!
