Custom Rainbow Star Baby Quilt {A Finish + My First Pattern!}

I recently completed a Rainbow Star Baby Quilt as a custom order in my Etsy shop.  This quilt is so fun to make, and the rainbow spectrum is totally dazzling!

Pattern #BHQ0515001

A white background is always sparkling with the rainbow, but the gray is more practical for a bouncing baby boy!  Now that I have figured out EQ7, I was able to show the quilt to my customer with both a white and gray background, and she chose the gray.  If you can't wrap your brain around EQ7, just hold onto it and wait a few years and then try again.  That's what I did, and I just get it now!  My brain just needed to age more, I guess!

This quilt would be lovely with straight-line quilting or circles, but alas, my walking foot doesn't do that great of a job, so an allover meandering stitch it is.

All quilts deserve a turn on the clothesline!

The backing is just . so . fun!

Most of the photo shoot looked like this, though!

I have written a pattern for this quilt - my first ever real, live, written pattern in PDF form!  Meet Rainbow Star Baby Quilt!  I finally figured out how to get diagrams into a document file, and it's become an addiction!  {Oh, happy dance!}

I have written three patterns in the past few weeks, one for another custom order request, and one as a result of an inquiry from a quilter who liked a quilt that sold in my Etsy shop several years ago.  Stay tuned for those little lovelies, neither of which is very little!  Both of them are more detailed than this quilt, and one has something like 54 pieces per block, so they're not really "little" projects!

My goal when creating a pattern is to provide instructions for six sizes, from wall to king {except this baby quilt}, and that's a lot of math and figuring!  I do this because that's what I want in a pattern.  I love making bed size quilts, and most of my custom quilts are bed sized, but most patterns are made for lap quilts or a twin, and a king size pattern is a rarity.

The quilt below was completed by Shannon of The Fleming's Nine, my blogging friend who tested the pattern and gave helpful insight.  We've never met but have so much in common!  It's great to see the quilt with a gray border instead of the rainbow - a cleaner look which I like very much!

Rainbow Star Baby Quilt is available in my Craftsy shop and my Etsy shop for an introductory price of $2.50 through May 20th.  The PDF pattern includes Kona Solids selections, as well as info on the rainbow fabric and blank star grids to help you plan your personalized color layout.  This pattern is perfect for beginners and up and includes easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions with color graphics for cutting and piecing this stunning quilt.

And while you're over at Craftsy checking out my new pattern, now is the perfect time to get one of the classes on your Wish List - all Craftsy classes are up to $20 off through May 11th!
