GRAVITY Quilt Along {Quilt Tops!}

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today we're assembling the quilt tops in the GRAVITY Quilt Along!

Cheers  erupt,  confetti  falls,  and  happy  dance  begins!!

Here's my GRAVITY!  I would have loved hanging it for the pictures but didn't want to risk stretching any of the bias seams as she is just plain big at 96" x 97". Now, now, Mrs.Gravity, big in this case is good, great even, so don't get your diamonds in a twist!

I chose a fun rainbow petal fabric from JoAnn's for backing.  It's a high quality fabric, so I was comfortable using it in a quilt.  I say was because my quilt is currently at Cotton Berry Quilts being quilted!

I love ironing on my new ironing cabinet!  It is wider than the fabric with a space between the wall for fabric to drape over the back.

 ♥ Quilt Top Construction ♥

My tips for quilt top assembly:
  • Make sure you've pinned the pieces together correctly.  Those seams are really long to rip apart if sewn incorrectly.  The bias edges make that tricky.  Yep, I sewed a seam wrong and had to rip it out, and then I nearly sewed a second one wrong, too!
  • Place a pin parallel to the seam edge to ease a larger piece in, if necessary.
  • Be sure to run a narrow 1/8" seam around the edge of your quilt top to keep the edges from stretching during handling and quilting.  Your quilter will love you for it!

 ♥ ♥   Prize Package Giveaway!  ♥ ♥

Please visit our sponsors and show them some love by purchasing from their shops, bookmarking their storefronts for later shopping, and signing up for their newsletters.  Be sure to tell them you are visiting their shop from the GRAVITY Quilt Along!  Let them know sponsoring Quilt Alongs is advertising that works!

The following prize package will be randomly given away to one entrant on September 18th when the Finished Quilt Link-up is posted.

Busy Hands Quilts {that's me!} is sponsoring the prize package in the finished quilt top giveaway.  I am a new pattern designer and make ready-made and custom quilts.  The prize package includes a layer cake roll-up, two Bee My Honey charm packs, a fat quarter bundle of solids by RJR, and a Lil' Twister template.  I won the fat quarter bundle in a quilt along I ended up not participating in, so I am giving it away to someone who earned it rather than keeping it for myself.

I've been admiring all the Gravity QAL posts. Your top turned out stunning Myra and the backing fabric you picked is so fun!

We made it!!! I love your backing choice. I've decided on an orange tone-on-tone wide backing. The thought of piecing a back....no thanks. Love the prize pack. I've been intrigued by the twister ruler.

Your top looks perfect and the print you chose is really wonderful. Mine's getting a Freefall wideback by Tula Pink in Battleship. It should be here early next week. I can hardly wait to start quilting.

Your Gravity looks great! I have three seams to go, but my machine is in the shop, so I won't be posting today. Love your backing! Also love that you found it at JoAnn's! They are having a big Labor Day sale, and I have a 50% off coupon.

It looks incredible and I love the backing, though not so much as the ironing cabinet - what a genius idea!!

It's a stunning end of project (top) picture! I'll bet you're itching to have it all done by now. Thanks for linking up with the Pet Project Show, and sharing it with us all. Also, I had to turn my screen and tell my husband, "That's what I want to iron on!" It's a long weekend, and maybe we can get it done. Truth be told, I'm STILL ironing on a portable little board after a whole year. Thanks for the inspiration on two parts.
