Nautical News Custom Twin Quilt + Pattern

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

My latest custom order is a twin quilt set using Seaworthy fabrics.  Because it has nautical fabrics and seems so, well, nautical, I named it Nautical News.  LOL!  I couldn't find a pattern or tutorial for the size of blocks I was after, so I wrote this one up as a full pattern which includes directions for 6 sizes from baby to king.

The quilting is organic wavy lines on Mrs.Singer.  She and I got into the groove, and the waves look so nautical!!

My customer picked this pillow sham from the Shams With Style book.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again - this is the best quilting book I have ever purchased.  I've used it more than any quilting-related book I own.  It includes instructions for many different styles of pillow shams in 9 sizes.  Yes!  9 sizes for each pillow style!

The backing is the cutest sailboat print!  Note to self:  Think twice, cut once.  Directional fabrics are directional, after all!  Yep, I cut the backing going the wrong way after thinking once, not twice.

Quilt Stats:
  • Pattern:  Nautical News, a quilt pattern by Busy Hands Quilts.
  • Size:  Twin
  • Fabric:  Seaworthy and Kona White
  • Batting:  100% cotton
  • Backing:  Seaworthy
  • Quilting:  Organic wavy stitch on Mrs.Singer, my antique 31-15.
  • Binding:  Seaworthy red stripe
  • Value:  Won't you sail away with me?

Here's the cover of Shams With Style.

That is a wonderful pattern for those fabrics. I don't see anything wrong with the backing, though. Love the wavy lines for this quilt. Thank you so much for the free pattern.

I love the contrast your waves create against the stripes. I find your quilt perfect for summer and vacations. :-)

Such a great quilt pattern and quilt. The quilting is just right for it. So summery, too - I can feel the breeze through my hair as I sail around the bay. And it's free!
