Poolside Wall Hanging in Island Batiks

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

July's assignment for Island Batik Ambassadors was to make a quilt with a secondary design.  I love designs that are created with chains of squares, so it was an easy decision to make a wall hanging in Poolside, a new pattern by The Flemings Nine.

This quilt is made mostly from Rise and Shine with a couple of pinks tossed in to complete the rainbow.  The background is Island Batik black.  You will find Island Batik fabrics over here.

The blocks went together fairly quickly even with that cutout you see in the chain of squares.  By pressing to one side, almost every seam nested, and very little needed pinned when the blocks were sewn together.  That's my kind of quilt - pinned as little as possible with points still matching!

Quilting is a digital design called Elements, done in black Superior Omni thread.   I am SO happy that Gratitude is back to stitching with polyester thread after the hiccup major meltdown she had with it earlier this year.  The incredible amount of fuzzies cotton thread creates while longarm quilting is a real headache because it gets stuck in the stitching on both the top and bottom.

If you are interested in the more day-to-day and nuts-n-bolts of my quilting projects, hop on over to my Instagram feed, BusyHandsQuilts.  You can look at all of my posts online without having the Instagram app on your mobile device.

I am currently destashing a bunch of fabric, quilt kits, and scraps.  You'll find all of those items on my Instagram destashing account, BusyHandsDestash.  Once again, you don't have to have an Instagram account to view my page on your computer.  You can email me if you'd like to purchase anything because you won't be able to comment without an account.  In the near future, I am planning on destashing some of the Island Batik fabrics I have purchased, so be sure to check out my page.

I love this quilt! Chains are one of my favorites, but I decided to use snowball this time. The colors are so vibrant and really pop with the black background. Was that the black from the new box?
