Ombre Mountains Quilt - The Moda Grunge One!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I have a new quilt to share with you - Ombre Mountains in Moda Grunge.  It just may be a new favorite!

Ombre Mountains is available in the Busy Hands Quilts Pattern Shop.

Ah, Those Fabrics!

So now you've seen both ends of the quilt, equally stunning.  A blending of blue-green, blues, to purples, and blush pinks.

Moda Grunge is so versatile for quilting.  It reads like a solid with loads more depth and character.

My Online Fabric Stash 😉

This delicious pile of ombres came from my online stash. 😂 That's what I call ordering in fabric since I only buy fabric when I have an immediate use for it, or if there is a certain colorway that is running low.  Right now that's my reds!

I love EQ8 software where I can mock up a quilt in exact fabrics, and these fabrics said, YES, use me!  So I did!

Cut, Count, Label - the Key to Organization

To keep track of cut pieces, I use Alphabitties {available here and here} if I'm going to use them immediately.  Otherwise I'll use a scrap of paper and pin it or use a Clover clip.

As I've grown as a pattern writer, I've begun to label more and more.  For example, if the same piece (fabric and size) is used multiple places in the pattern, each will have a different label with the exact number of pieces needed under that label.  It means when you go to sew, you have the exact number of pieces in your pile, so it's sew and go.  No counting at this step; you've done all that back at the cutting stage.  If there is more than one block in the pattern, I'll label the pieces with a letter to indicate which block the piece is used in, since blocks are always labeled with a letter.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any in-process photos!

The Ombre Mountains quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts Pattern Shop.

Longarm Quilting

This Ombre Mountains quilt was machine quilted with Ripples by Hermione Agee from 2015, done on my Handi Quilter Fusion with Pro Stitcher.

Multi-Sized Pattern - 6 Sizes!

Ombre Mountains includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  I've done all of the quilty math for you ➕➖➗✖=💯❗❗

The piece sizes vary by quilt size, and it took a fair amount of figuring to get it to work out to actual quilt sizes while preserving the chevron design across the width of the quilt.  How do you use 14 fabrics in the length of a baby quilt AND a king quilt and maintain the design?  If HST size just increases, the proportion will be all wrong.  I called on every brain cell and figured it out for you, and it's all in the pattern!

Easy Beginner Quilt

Ombre Mountains is a quick and easy beginner quilt.  If you can make an HST, you've got this!  The most difficult thing that takes some attention is fabric placement and getting the rectangular pieces in their proper places.  Just follow the pattern, and you're good to go!

This quilt was a fun one to sew.  The colors blending together was so great to watch as each row was attached to the next.

Background Fabrics

Huh, background fabrics??  You're right - there are none!  This is one of the few patterns I've ever written that doesn't include a background or accent fabric.  I had to look hard to find others, but there are a few - Rosewood Lane, Scrappy Patches, Pixelation, and Love Multiplied. Out of 56 patterns.  💕

What a beautiful, Grungey Quilt! Love the pattern and I would be tempted to use your exact colorway. Nicely done, Myra!

Oh I love this quilt in the single blue color way. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! Would it be possible to get a list of those colors! I realize that’s a lot to ask & if it’s not possible I completely understand!! Thanks for this design, I’m new here and am excited to try this one! 😃 Have a WONDERFUL day!!

Would it be post for you to make up a kit of the Ombré Mountains in all the blue shades, for a queen sized quilt? Thanks 😊

Calico Creations in Mt. Vernon, WA has the throw size in this pattern/colorway in a kit! It's really pretty! The kit includes the pattern and fabric for top/back so all I had to buy was the binding... yippee!
