Matching Fabrics When Shopping Online

A queen size Postcard From Sweden quilt made as a custom order.

If you order fabric online, you've probably opened a package full of anticipation and was surprised at the color of a fabric inside.  It wasn't what you were expecting and didn't match the project you had intended it for.  It happens to me, too.

Did you know that Connecting Threads has a great way to match colors from all of their fabric collections?  If a fabric from one collection is the same color as a fabric from another collection, they have the same fabric color name, such as True Blue.

To try this out, follow these easy steps:
  • Head to their website, hover over Fabric at the top left, then click on All Fabrics.
  • In the left column under Shop By, click on Color and select a color you're looking for.
  • When you scroll through the offerings and find a swatch you like, take note of the color name of the fabric which is shown in italics.
  • Then type this color name in the Search Site box at the top right of the page.  All fabrics from all fabric collections on their site with this name will appear.
It's pretty cool!

Another great feature of their website is when you click on an individual fabric, the entire fabric collection that fabric is in shows up at the bottom of the page.

Of course, this doesn't work for matching fabrics from other manufacturers.  That would be an unrealistic expectation.

It's a great day to try out this feature.  You will save 20% on your entire order with promo code YAY20 at checkout through Sunday.  Click here to save big.

And that means that my Home Awaits pattern kitted in Sweet Splendor is also on sale!

  2. Hi Myra! What a beautiful quilt! This is hands down my favorite pattern of all that I've ever seen. Shannon inspired me to make my own from seeing her lovely work, and now seeing your version of perfection makes me want to make another one just because it is fab. Thanks for the Connecting Threads tip - I never knew that. ~smile~ Roseanne
