I have a beautiful rainbow quilt to share with you today!! I actually made this quilt last fall but didn't share it here on the blog. This quilt sold before it was even finished - no surprise there! :)
Picket Fence is one of my favorite quilts to make because not every block is pieced, so it goes together quickly and still has a lot of WOW power. :)
This quilt is the Twin size.
Layer Cake Friendly
Picket Fence is a layer cake friendly quilt pattern, and the Queen and King sizes are made from layer cakes and jelly roll strips for the best use of your time. It would also be very simple to make the Picket Fence quilt pattern from your stash; just cut the number of pieces indicated in the pattern.
All the Sizes - Seven in All!
Oh my, I went overboard when writing Picket Fence, and she does indeed include all the sizes! Baby, Square Throw, Rectangular Throw, Twin, Square Queen, Rectangular Queen, and King. Phew! I've done all of the math for you; that's one of my favorite parts of writing quilt patterns!
Two Orientations
Picket Fence blocks can be oriented all one direction (in this quilt vertically), or every other row alternating horizontal/vertical for a different look. Go to this blog post to see Picket Fence with alternating block layout.
Solid Rainbow Fabrics
This version of Picket Fence is made from a layer cake of Boundless Spectrum with colors from my stash added in for variety. I don't know how many different colors are in this quilt, but there are a lot, probably 50-60. This is an unusual array of colors in a rainbow quilt; eggplant purple, pinky reds, peach oranges, lemony yellows, aqua greens, teals, hushed blues, finishing with a range of purples.
Directions for making this rainbow version are not included in the quilt pattern; you'll have to figure out how many strip sets and then blocks to make of each colorway on your own.
Longarm Quilting
This rainbow Picket Fence quilt is quilted with Diagonal Bias Plaid, quilted on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher in medium gray thread. This simple design always yields stunning, modern results and is one of my favorites.
