Quilty Cabins Quilt Pattern - a Throw Quilt in Rainbow Brights!

Today I'm sharing a Quilty Cabins quilt in a rainbow!  The hearts inside the log cabin blocks is a sweet spin on the traditional log cabin design.  The Quilty Cabins pattern is fat quarter friendly - which also means super stash friendly - and easy to make.

Of course you know there are loads of sizes included in the Quilty Cabins pattern - 6 in all!

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Log Cabin Heart Design

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern takes the traditional log cabin quilt block and adds a sweet heart in the middle of the pieced blocks.  With a lot of trial and error, figuring and re-figuring, that heart ended up smack dab in the middle of the block.  All of the effort was worth it to create this unique version of the traditional log cabin block which so many quilters love to make.

I have grown to love making log cabin quilt blocks after changing the way I cut the fabric which resulted in more accurate quilt blocks.  The techniques I've learned to create more accurate blocks are included in the quilt pattern, including the direction of the grain the fabric is cut on, and piecing.

All the Sizes and FQ Friendly!

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern includes all of the sizes - 6 in all - so you're covered for whatever size you're looking to make.  You'll find these sizes of quilts in the pattern.

Baby  35" x 35"  5 fat quarters but best for scraps

     Throw  53" x 70"  13 fat quarters

     Twin  70" x 88"  22 fat quarters

     Square Queen  88" x 88 "  28 fat quarters

     Rectangular Queen 88" x 105"  33 fat quarters

     King 105" x 105"  39 fat quarters

Scrappy and Stash Friendly!

Because Quilty Cabins is a fat quarter friendly quilt pattern, it's perfect for using your stash of FQs or FQ bundles.  Pretty much any fabric combination will work, and this is a great pattern to hide those ugly fabrics that seem to sneak into our stashes, or fabrics we've grown un-fond of over time.  They'll hide away and yet will fill a useful place.  Not all of the fabrics in the quilt end up as hearts, so there is a real possibility of hiding a few less favorite fabrics in the mix.

Yes, you can use scraps, too!  The pattern details how many of each piece size to cut, so using your scrap bins will totally work as well.

A Rainbow of Bright Fabrics and Quilt Kits!

This Throw size quilt was made by my sewist Kare in a rainbow of brights from the Dream fabric collection by Riley Blake Designs.  It's a fun collection of brights that read as solids or nearly solids with some rainbows, clouds, and raindrops tossed in.

We have curated Quilty Cabins quilt kits in these exact fabrics to make it easy for you to reproduce this quilt on your own.  It's a super happy quilt for a teenager or young adult, or anyone who simply loves bright and happy rainbow colors.

The Quilty Cabins Quilt Kits in Rainbow are available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Extra Wide Backing

This quilt is backed with a happy yellow wide backing.  There are a rainbow of wide backings in The Wide Back Shop, as well as neutrals for most every quilt project.

Longarm Machine Quilting

The quilting design used is Double Bubble in light gray thread, completed on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher.  This design has become another favorite as it stitches out so well and has a fun vibe.

A Peek at Hand Picked

The quilt on the ladder in the background of the image above is Hand Picked, also made with the Dream fabric collection.  Hand Picked includes many sizes, is jelly roll friendly, and strip pieced for a super quick finish.  The quilt pattern is also available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.  We also carry quilt kits in Hand Picked rainbow, both of which you'll find right here.
