Today I'm sharing a Sunrise version of the Good Morning quilt pattern! This quilt was finished in October of last year and somehow didn't get posted on the blog at that time. Oh no!!
Good Morning is one of many strip pieced quilt patterns in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern collection. In this design, the colors cascade down the quilt top from corner to corner.
This fun quilt is fast to sew together and is stash friendly. Pull five fabrics that meld together in some way, whether from the same colorway, corresponding colors, or even a rainbow; and then add a background accent fabric, and you're ready! There really are no limits to the fabrics you can use.
The Good Morning quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
Good Morning Quilt Pattern
After being inspired by Deanna's fire version of Waterfall II (click here to check it out), I've looked for other patterns that the fire or sunrise/sunset theme, would work in, and the Good Morning quilt pattern is perfect for this theme.
This is the quilt that was the inspiration for the quilt pattern being named Good Morning. Seeing the sun peeking over the morning horizon in a beautiful blending of colors, is a good morning indeed.
Strip piecing and no seams to nest make this a fast and easy pattern to make.
All the Quilt Sizes
The Good Morning quilt pattern includes lots of quilt sizes in the instructions.
- Baby quilt
- Throw quilt
- Twin bed quilt
- Queen bed quilt
- King bed quilt
Good Morning Fabric Requirements
Longarm Quilting
In keeping with the theme of the quilt, the quilting design looks like the flames of a fire. It adds wonderful texture and depth to the quilt. The digital quilting design is Cultivar, done on my Handi Quilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher in black thread.

Scrap- and Precut-Friendly Quilt Pattern
Good Morning is a great pattern for using your scraps, not just five fabrics. The pattern includes instructions to use scraps or precut strips instead of only five fabrics. This Americana quilt right here is an example of using scraps instead of a planned 5-fabric layout. It made a good dent in my red and blue scrap bins.
Dewdrop Fabrics
This quilt is made with Dewdrop by Windham Fabrics. Each fabric includes several hues of a single colorway with gold metallic flecks, and some of the fabrics include a blending of several colorways, such as the orange, yellow and pink fabric shown here.
The background fabric is solid black, the binding is a red from the Dewdrop collection, and the backing is Dry Brush wide back in black.

The Good Morning Sunrise quilt is gorgeous! I also like the RWB version. Thank you for offering so many options on your patterns - color coordinated, scrappy, precuts. I love to see a pattern that I can make with my "vintage" fabrics!
