Picnic Plaid Quilted Wall Hanging in Emma's Dry Goods

Today's feature is a Picnic Plaid wall hanging in the Emma's Dry Goods fabric collection by Connecting Threads.  It's a classic collection for those who like primitive and farmhouse country fabrics, with a range of colors and small prints.

The Baby size instructions in the Picnic Plaid quilt pattern are perfect for wall hangings and table top quilts; I wouldn't consider this a quilt for a baby!

The Picnic Plaid quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Emma's Dry Goods Fabrics

This fabric collection from Connecting Threads features amethyst, teals, deep reds, black and ochre in a variety of small tone-on-tones that read as nearly solids.  This collection is so easy to work into many quilt patterns!  You will be seeing several quilts in this group of fabrics in the near future, and one features the fabrics on a black background for a truly amazing quilt.

The background in this quilt is the cream tone-on-tone from the collection, and the binding is one of the amethyst prints.

Connecting Threads has kitted two of my quilt patterns in Emma's Dry Goods.  They are Glimmer in the Twin size and Mariposa in the Queen size.

The Picnic Plaid Quilt Pattern

This quilt pattern includes five sizes - Baby (Wall Hanging), Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  In recent patterns, the Full/Double size has been included, but it doesn't work out mathematically with this design.  All of the math is done for you in the five sizes, and you will love not having to figure anything out yourself.

Picnic Plaid is a unique way to make a Granny's Square quilt - the entire quilt top is strip pieced with just a few individual squares used at the ends of a few rows.  No sewing together individual squares here!  You will love how quickly the quilt top goes together with strip piecing and the majority of the seams nesting together, when the instructions in the pattern are followed.

Precut Friendly

Picnic Plaid is a great way to use your stash of precuts - jelly roll strips, fat quarters, 1/4-yards, or even your scrap strip bins.  The pattern include cutting instructions for these three cuts of fabric.  Click here to view the Emma's Dry Goods jelly roll strips that this quilt is made with.

Longarm Quilting

The digital longarm quilting design used in this quilt is Feathers Allover, done on my Handi Quilter Fusion with Pro Stitcher in cream thread.  The round feathers soften the many hard straight lines of the many squares in the quilt top.

The backing on this quilt is Creamy Whimsy, a wide back by Wilmington Prints, which we previously carried in The Wide Back Shop but which is currently sold out.

This quilt was pieced, quilted, and bound by me.
