Fireworks Throw Quilt in Perfect Union

Today I'm excited to share the brand new Fireworks quilt pattern!  Star patterns are pretty common in my pattern line, and this is the 21st star pattern I've released.  You can see all of the star quilt patterns right here.

Fireworks is a fat quarter-friendly quilt pattern that includes six sizes - Baby/Wall Hanging, Lap, Throw, Square Queen, Rectangle Queen, and King.  This pattern is also perfect for using up your scraps.

The Fireworks quilt pattern is now in the shop.  You can check out all of the Busy Hands Quilts star quilts right here.

Fireworks Quilt Pattern

Fireworks is made with large double star blocks that are made with a smaller eight-point patchwork star inside a larger eight-point star.  The large pieced blocks are so eye-catching and fun to make.  In this design, the blocks are offset in each row, and the layout varies in a few of the sizes to make the math work out to actual quilt sizes.  In all sizes, the star blocks sparkle and shine!

Stash- and Accuquilt-Friendly Pattern

The Fireworks quilt pattern is written for fat quarters, or you could use scraps by cutting the number of pieces in the sizes indicated in the cutting instructions.

The piece sizes in the design are all available as Accuquilt dies, though the pattern does not include specific instructions on how to make the quilt with Accuquilt pieces; you'd have to figure this out on your own.  Piece sizes are proprietary to the quilt pattern.

Lots of Quilt Sizes Included

The Fireworks quilt pattern includes the following 6 sizes in the instructions:

  • Baby / Wall Hanging 48" x 48"
  • Lap 48" x 64"
  • Throw 64" x 80"
  • Square Queen 96" x 96"
  • Rectangle Queen 96" x 112"
  • King 112" x 112"

Perfect Union by Laundry Basket Quilts

These beautiful fabrics are from the Perfect Union fabric collection by Laundry Basket Quilts.  There are many shades of what I would call Delft Blues with creamy white in a variety of prints.  While I am tempted to leave out the lighter prints, they are the ones that give the stars a little sparkle, so they work well as long as they have enough contrast against the background color.  The background in this quilt is the tiny blue star on cream from the Perfect Union collection.  Unfortunately, this is an older fabric collection that is very hard to find.  However, it's pretty similar to newer collections by Laundry Basket Quilts.

Longarm Machine Quilting

This Fireworks quilt was quilted with an allover Star and loop design in natural white thread on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher.  The binding is a fabric from the Perfect Union collection.  The backing is Shades in Cream, a wide back available right here in our shop.

This quilt top was made by Kare Ybarra and quilted and bound by me.

Quilt Sizes and Fabric Requirements

At 48" square, the Wall Hanging size also makes a nice size baby blanket for tummy time!

This pattern includes two Queen sizes - a Square Queen and a Rectangle Queen.  Some people want a pillow tuck on their Queen quilts and some people don't - so both sizes are included in my new quilt patterns if they both work out mathematically.
