My Finish is a queen size Ski to Sea quilt for my son. This quilt has been in progress for several years and has finally been released from WIP purgatory.
I placed it on his bed today after he left for the summer to work on his grandparents' farm. I wasn't about to put it on a perpetually unmade bed!!

Ski to Sea is a race from Mount Baker down to Bellingham Bay which includes cross country and downhill skiing or snowboarding, downhill run, road biking, canoeing, cyclocross biking, and sea kayaking. It's a world renowned race. This quilt is a Ski to Sea adventure!
I designed Ski to Sea in Electric Quilt 7 to figure out how many of each color combo was needed, and one of my boys cut them with my Accuquilt Go! The sky and mountains were placed in a particular direction, but the sky, rocks, and water blocks were all randomly placed with no attempt made to not put like fabrics side by side.
I used several designs for the quilting, all edge to edge to make it more simple. The sky is quilted with circles, then snowflakes along with stars and swirls on the mountain, the rocks have jagged lines, the trees have aspen leaves, and the water has sea creatures.
I love to put wool in quilts I make for my family because it breathes so well (not too hot or too cold), has a lot of fluff to accentuate the quilting, and adds a nice layer of weight. Hobbs Heirloom Wool is washable.
This is the third use of my Handmade labels from Ikaprint!

ReplyDeleteMyra, Ski to Sea is amazing! All those HSTs are wonderful! And I giggled at "WIP Purgatory". I have several quilts languishing there myself. 8-) Also...I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised to see a picture of my heart quilt at the bottom of your post. You made my day! Thank you!
