My Finish is a wall hanging / table topper in my new pattern, Diamond Dance! A special thanks to Island Batik for providing the fabric for this project.
Diamond Dance will be released next Friday if all goes as planned. The quilt pattern includes 7 sizes from wall hanging to king and is Accuquilt friendly though specific instructions are not given for it. Diamond Dance will be my first pattern to be released as a paper pattern shortly after the PDF is available!
It's picture overload, because this is the first time I quilted individual blocks with separate border and corners on my computerized quilting machine rather than an edge to edge design. Doing something new for the first time on the machine is always challenging to figure out, but thanks to some videos, it eventually worked out. The blocks were easy peasy, but getting the border and corners to fit was a workout, and of course I chose a pretty complicated design right out of the chute!
As a member of Craftsy Unlimited, I watched The Perfect Finish course on binding quilts and learned some new tips for applying bindings, one of them being using a walking foot. It really did help keep the binding nice and smooth on this quilt. I also learned there is a right way to fold corners to get them to lie flat and square every time.
As an Island Batik Ambassador for 2018, I will be making a number of projects with their beautiful fabrics. This quilt is for the Mini Love project for February. While this isn't exactly a mini quilt, it definitely is mini compared to the bed size quilts I usually make.
Quilt Stats:
Size: 29" x 29"
Fabric: Island Batik Morning Sunshine, plus other collections with Island Batik white
Batting: Hobbs Cotton
Quilting: Double feather block and scroll borders in white thread on Gratitude.

You are too kind Myra, to have shown my in progress Snowball quilt. I'm loving the sewing of it but it is so far from the beautiful and professional pieces I view here. I am always impressed and learn so much from your posts.
ReplyDeleteI like your version of Diamond Dance. I had to go look at mine because I didn't remember making mine that way. I was worried there for a minute!
ReplyDeleteYour table topper is quite pretty. I like the quilting on it ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour mini is fabulous! So glad to have you join us as an IBA this year. :D
ReplyDeleteI love your Diamond Dance quilt! Your color placement is perfection. Accuquilt friendly, you say? Is it just HSTs, geese and squares in compatible sizes then? I might even have those dies in a drawer somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI'm VERY CURIOUS about your computerized system for quilting. Are you using IntelliQuilter, Statler Stitcher, or some other setup with your longarm? It looks GORGEOUS. Whatever struggles you went through for the borders were worth it because they came out fantastic!
It's a great pattern. Love the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteSuper pretty colour choices - well done!
