Twin Size Whirl Quilt | October Island Batik Challenge - Paper Piecing!

October's challenge for Island Batik Ambassadors is a paper pieced project.  I am not a paper piecer, so I found a pattern with super easy paper piecing.  Only the black and gray blocks are paper pieced in this project.  The quilt took quite a bit of time to complete with the specific color placement I chose.  So better late than never, here is a twin size Whirl in Island Batik Paisley Brights!

Each month Island Batik Ambassadors are given a type of project to sew with Island Batik Fabrics.  Twice a year we receive a huge box of fabric {mine had 40+ yards in it!}, along with Aurifil thread and Hobbs batting to use in our projects.  This quilt is made with a layer cake of Island Batik Paisley Brights which I was provided as part of my ambassadorship.

Whirl is a quilt pattern by On Williams Street, available here.  The pattern includes four sizes from baby to queen.  I would call it an intermediate pattern because there is some calculating of pieces needed that isn't included in the pattern.

While this quilt could have been custom quilted to highlight the stars from the background black and gray, I found that the modern Diagonal Bias Plaid design added to the modern feel of the quilt.  When yer already running late, ya put on yer running shoes and quilt out an edge-to-edge design!

And yes, I should be on time with November's assignment - log cabin projects - that quilt is already pieced and ready to quilt!  It's a fun Christmas quilt.  Yeah!
