Gradient Quilt Pattern - a Baby in Rainbow

The time has finally come! I have a brand new quilt pattern that I am so pleased to share with you! Meet Gradient - a quilt design that creates a stunning ombre effect using 7 fabrics. Includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.

This is the scrappy version of Gradient with each colorway made from a variety of prints, instead of a single fabric as shown in the other Gradient quilts. It was so fun to make a happy rainbow quilt from my scraps!

Introducing Gradient

This Gradient quilt was made in the Baby size, which measures approximately 43" x 43". You will find yourself turning to the Gradient quilt pattern again and again for its timeless beauty. The pattern incorporates a stunning stream of rainbow colors interchanging from corner to corner. Oh so rainbow-y!! 🌈

Includes 6 Sizes

The Gradient quilt pattern is available in 6 fabulous sizes. Gradient uses subtle hue changes to create an ombre effect diagonally across the quilt top. Make each colorway a single fabric or use a variety of prints in 7 colorways.

Beautiful Scrappy Rainbow Prints

The fabrics are an assortment of rainbow colors from my stash of rainbow fabrics. Each colorway includes a variety of prints, and I think there are only one or two duplicate prints. The sashing is solid white, and the setting triangles and border are a fun scattered print of white dots on black. The backing is Widescreen in Black by Robert Kaufman. The binding is a red print, found in one of the squares also, and available in our fabric shop right here.

This quilt was quilted with a Heart in Heart Border digital design, which came with my Handi Quilter machine, in white thread. This design is great because the hearts face both up and down, so no matter how you look at it, you'll see hearts facing you. With this design, this quilt is perfect for a rainbow baby.

Good Morning Baby Quilt in Dream!

Today's fun quilty share is a Good Morning quilt in the Baby size! The blending of bright rainbow colors with gray gives way to a modern baby quilt that will keep the precious baby goggle-eyed and entertained!

Good Morning is a great pattern to use your scraps of scraps or jelly rolls, or use yardage of five colors to create an ombre effect. Both methods are included in the quilt pattern, along with all of the quilt sizes, and strip piecing, as well. I love to spoil you with all of those important details! :)

All of the Quilt Sizes

The Good Morning quilt pattern includes 5 sizes, so you don't have to do math; it's all figured out for you. :)

Baby 38" x 50" 12 jelly roll strips or 1/4 yard or less of five fabrics

Throw 62" x 74" 24 jelly roll strips or 1/2 yard or less of five fabrics

Twin 66" x 90" 32 jelly roll strips or 5/8 yard or less of five fabrics

Queen 98" x 110" 56 jelly roll strips or 1-1/8 yard or less of five fabrics

King 110" x 110" 68 jelly roll strips or 1-3/8 yards or less of five fabrics

This quilt is 50" x 50" instead of 36" x 50" because I kept making blocks with the leftover segments. No additional print strips were needed; more of the segments were utilized than the pattern states to use. Add in a little extra of the background fabric and another binding strip, and you can do this, too. In the quilt pattern, the baby size should have been 50" x 50", but the cat is out of the bag, we have a huge box of printed patterns in stock, and it's simply too late to change it now.

Two Block Style Options

The Good Morning quilt pattern includes two options for the blocks.

Make all of the blocks from the same five fabrics. This is a great way to create an ombre effect with five hues from light to dark in a single colorway. Or create a bubblegum effect with pink, orange, yellow, and lime green. There are so many possibilities with only five prints! Below are some examples.

Make scrappy blocks from a variety of prints. This is a great way to use your scrap stash or jelly rolls. The featured baby quilt is made with jelly roll strips cut from fat quarters. The Americana version of Good Morning posted right here is another example of a scrappy Good Morning. Here are some examples below.

Fun Rainbow Fabrics on Modern Gray

This Baby quilt is made with strips of Dream by Riley Blake which I cut from fat quarters. The white prints from the collection were included to create sparkles across the quilt top, though they certainly could have been left out and only bright prints used. The background fabric is Kona Cotton Ash.

The backing is Widescreen in Gray by Robert Kaufman, available in The Wide Back Shop at Busy Hands Quilts. We try to keep this backing in stock because it goes perfectly on so many quilts, and so many of you agree, too. :) We spoil you with an extra 4" for free with each wide backing purchase in our shop.

Quick and Easy Quilt Pattern

The Good Morning quilt goes together very quickly with strip piecing. You won't be cutting individual squares and piecing them together; sew strips together, then cut and resew, and magic happens! There are no seams to match in the piecing of the blocks, so this is a perfect pattern for beginner quilters.

Longarm Machine Quilting

The longarm quilting design on this quilt is aptly called Rainbow Hearts. It's the perfect design for rainbow quilts, and it stitches out so nicely with very few overlapping stitches. Thread color is light gray. Quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher.

Hand Picked Rainbow Baby Quilt + Quilt Kits!

Today I'm sharing the Hand Picked rainbow quilt! This cute quilt might be one of my favorite quilts that I've ever made. It's looks scrappy (though it's a single fabric collection). It's a rainbow. It's cute. It checks all of the boxes!!

The Hand Picked quilt pattern works great for using up your scrap bins or precuts. The pattern is fairly quick with strip piecing, too.

All the Quilt Sizes

The Hand Picked quilt pattern includes 5 sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin XL, Queen, and King. I love spoiling you with all of the sizes! The Twin XL is perfect for college dorm beds which are 5" longer than a standard Twin mattress.

Strip Pieced Pattern

The Hand Picked quilt pattern is strip pieced which really speeds up the process and helps with accuracy. You'll make strip sets with varying numbers of strips, then sub-cut them into segments and sew the segments into blocks. The height of the strip sets is important in this pattern to make assembling the quilt top easier.

Hand Picked Rainbow Quilt Kits!

We have stocked quilt kits in these fabrics! The quilt kit makes two quilts from the bundle of fabrics included. The fat quarter bundle includes enough fabric to cut enough strips for the Baby and Throw sizes. The white FQs can be used as the background in the Baby size, but not the Throw size. The quilt kits include enough white background fabric for both the Baby and Throw, so using the white fat quarters as the background in the Baby size isn't required. The green fabric is the binding for both quilts.

Quick and Easy Quilt Pattern

The Hand Picked quilt pattern is quick and easy. It's just a bunch of straight-line sewing, cutting, and sewing back together again. That's the story of quilting in a nutshell! I love it when I can sit down and do brainless sewing, feeding the strips through over and over again, resting the brain, and this pattern allows that. :)

Longarm Quilting

Hearts and rainbows are perfect for this Hand Picked Rainbow Baby quilt. This design stitches out so nicely. The quilting is done on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher in bright white thread. I have had Gratitude (my machine) for over eight years, purchased secondhand, and she is a workhorse indeed. A terrific employee!
