Whimsical Quilt Pattern - a Throw Quilt in Flower Sugar!

Today I'm sharing a new quilt pattern called Whimsical!  It's a mix of a large star and a large flower.

This Throw size quilt is made with my long-hoarded stash of Floral Collection Flower Sugar fabrics by Lecien.  It's such fun, happy fabrics that I found impossible to cut up for a long time, waiting for just the right pattern to use them in.

The Whimsical quilt pattern is quick and easy and includes borders that frame the beautiful design.

Six quilt kits in these fabrics were listed in my quilt shop and were snatched up right away.

The Whimsical quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

The Whimsical Quilt Pattern

The Whimsical quilt pattern is suitable for advanced beginners and up.  If you can make an HST (half-square triangle), you likely can make Whimsical.  It's not hard at all.

Whenever possible, I like to assemble quilt patterns in quadrants because there are very few long seams to sew when sewing the quilt top together.  This is one of those patterns that is perfect to assemble in quadrants - so only one seam runs the entire width of the quilt top.  :)

The star/flower design is the same in all of the quilt sizes, with different sizes of blocks used to create the size of quilt you're making.

For the Twin size, the top and bottom borders are wider than the side borders to bring the quilt to size.  This isn't something I would normally do in a pattern, but I figured if it's accomplished with a fabric that you love, it would be okay.  More of a beautiful fabric is a good thing!

On the Queen and King bed sizes, the center star/flower fills the top of the mattress with the borders hanging down three sides.

All the Quilt Sizes

The Whimsical quilt pattern includes 5 sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  As many sizes as work mathematically are included in all of my quilt patterns, so they are a true value to you.  :)

Here are the quilt sizes and the fabric requirements for the prints (does not include the background, borders, and binding):

Baby - 44" x 44" - 78 charm squares

Throw - 66" x 66" - 78 charm squares (yes, this is correct!)

Twin - 68" x 90" - 78 charm squares (yes, this is correct!) or 7 Fat Quarters

Queen - 96" x 96" - 13 Fat Quarters

King - 108" x 108" - 13 Fat Quarter (yes, this is correct!)

Those Beautiful Fabrics!

This fabric is Floral Collection, part of Flower Sugar by Lecien, all fabrics from my stash, which I purchased approximately ten years ago.  Lecien is still making fabrics very similar to these, because they are just such pretty fabrics, and there has been a demand for them for a long time.  You can find the newer fabrics right here.

The backing is also a Floral Collection Flower Sugar fabric from my stash.  It was listed on my destash  at Busy Hands Quilts but hadn't sold yet, so I pulled it from the shop and used it in this quilt.  :)  It's a bold aqua with a bright pink design.

The inner border and binding are a bold red with tiny white dots, a Riley Blake Designs print.

Longarm Quilting

The quilting on this quilt is a Canna design in bright white thread, done on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.

The Whimsical quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
