Coming in October 2026 is the Timeworn fabric collection by Dan Morris for QT Fabrics. The 28 prints in the collection are weathered blenders in dramatic hues, and feature a painted texture that evokes natural wear and authentic patina.  Colors range from earthy browns and blacks to warm oranges, moody blues, teals, and greens.

The Ombre Mountains quilt pattern is being featured in Timeworn marketing materials.  Below are two versions of the pattern in this earthy fabric collection.

Ombre Mountains Throw Quilt in Botanicals!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing an Ombre Mountains Throw size quilt in vibrant Botanical fabrics.  It turned out so pretty!  Colors range from teal to purples to pinks, and orange.  This quilt pattern includes 6 sizes, and the large pieces are quick and easy to assemble.

The Ombre Mountains quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Those Vivid Colors!

The fabrics in this quilt are from the Botanical collection by Boundless Fabrics from a number of years ago.  The design is exotic floral blenders in a number of jewel and gemstone colors.  Soothing teals and blues, plush purples, vibrant pinks and reds, and opulent oranges.

I've had yardage of 16 prints from this collection in my stash for quite awhile and had an epiphany one day that they are perfect for Ombre Mountains!  So I cut all of the prints up into 1/2-yard cuts and used one of the bundles to create this quilt, and curated quilt kits from the rest of the bundles.  You'll find quilt kits in my shop right here.

The backing and binding on the quilt are also from the Botanicals fabric collection, in colors not found in the quilt top, and they blend in perfectly.

Ombre Mountains Quilt Pattern Features

This pattern includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  I've got you covered for all of the math for these six quilt sizes.  The block sizes and the number of blocks vary in each quilt size in order to end up with actual quilt sizes.

Ombre Mountains is great way to get some HST practice under your belt.  The pattern includes a table that outlines the different combinations of fabrics used in the HSTs, and the clear instructions help you keep all of the fabrics straight.

The Ombre Mountains quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Big Pieces, Easy Piecing

The large pieces make for a fairly quick quilt.  I cut my fabrics with the Accuquilt Go! fabric cutter and took the project to the monthly church quilting group I attend.  I like to take simple piecing to work on because with all of the visiting, I tend to make mistakes in my sewing or fabric placement.  I would have completed the quilt top that day, but I didn't have enough triangles cut in one of the fabrics.

Note, this pattern does not include instructions on cutting with an Accuquilt fabric cutter.  You would need to figure out using the cutter with this pattern on your own.

With only one block to make, piecing is simple.  When piecing the rows, I press seams toward the HSts in every other row, alternating with pressing seams away from the HSTs in every other row.  This way, when the rows are joined together, the seams nest and the pieces meet crisply.  I didn't use pins at all in assembling this quilt top, but I know that sounds awful for some of you, so pin away if you need to!

Longarm Machine Quilting

To use the least yardage as backing for this Throw size quilt, I placed the backing selvedges along the rails with the quilt top sideways.  With the quilt top turned like this, it can make some longarm designs not feasible.

I found a design called Tuft Vines at Sew Shabby Pantos, and it ended up perfect for the prints on the fabrics and the design of the quilt.  Then thread choice becomes a quandry with a quilt with this many colors, and quilting from top to bottom of the quilt top meant that I could not change colors as the colors change down the quilt top.  I chose Superior Omni Light Mulberry 3115.  It blends in with all of the colors really well.

Quilted on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher.

Summer on the Porch Quilts by Customers!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today's post is to share some of the beautiful quilts customers have made in the Summer on the Porch quilt pattern.  This design is perfect for fat quarter bundles you have in your stash, along with a contrasting background fabric.

The Summer on the Porch quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

A Queen size by Patty with many of the Garden Party prints by Bluprint which the original Summer on the Porch quilt was made with.

A King size by Cindy White for her sister.  Matching pillow shams are below. She designed and figured out how to make them on her own, as the pattern does not include directions to make pillow shams.

A Queen size by Janet S, with a border added.  The pattern does not include a border, but looks great and is a great idea!

A New Waterfall Throw Quilt in Moda Grunge!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing with you a new Waterfall Throw quilt made in Moda Grunge fabrics.  This is a sparkly, vibrant quilt, and I ♥ it!!  The pieced setting triangles finish the design clear out to the edges for a truly stunning quilt design.

The Waterfall quilt pattern and supplement are available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

IF YOU'RE LOCATED OUTSIDE OF THE US, UK, OR AU

If you are located outside of the United States, UK, or Australia, you will need to shop my patterns on Etsy.  This is because pattern sales to some countries is so high that their government is requiring we collect and submit taxes to them.  We don't have the manpower to track and pay the taxes to other countries.  Etsy takes care of all taxes for sellers, so we are sending customers outside of the US, UK, and AU to our Etsy shop.

Click here to shop on Etsy.  Alternatively, the links on this page will redirect you to my Etsy shop, if needed.

WATERFALL QUILT SIZES

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes two sizes - Throw and Queen.  There is a supplement available for the Twin and King sizes.  These sizes aren't found in the original pattern because they aren't symmetrical in two opposite corners, so I didn't think to include them.  I had so many questions on how to make the King size that I wrote the Supplement.

COLORWASH OMBRE FABRIC SELECTION

Waterfall is all about letting the fabric shine!  I love the gradating ombre colorwash effect in this quilt design.  The colors just blend, mesh, meld {so many words!} together in a soothing way.

It's easier to get this effect than you think.  Here's how you create it yourself:
  • Grab the pattern.
  • Select two colorways that meld together.
  • Gather five hues of each of the two colorways, ranging from light to dark.
  • Add in a very light for the block centers and a very dark for the sashing.
The pattern gives specific instructions for fabric placement in each block, so it's easy peasy to keep each fabric in its place.

The Waterfall quilt pattern and supplement are available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

FABRICS USED IN THIS QUILT

This quilt is made entirely with Moda Grunge Dots and Seeing Stars fabric, including the sashing, backing, and binding.  The exact fabric numbers and names and where they are placed are included in the quilt pattern.

Unfortunately, Moda is no longer printing Hits the Spot or Seeing Stars prints in the Grunge collection.  I bought this fabric a few years ago and didn't get around to finishing it until recently.

The backing is Hash Dot in Turquoise by Michael Miller fabrics.  The binding is the black Grunge print used in the quilt top.

IDEAS FOR FABRIC SELECTION

Follow this blog for notification of when I post fabric collections I find that will work well in Waterfall.  As stated before, not many collections have 5 prints in each of 2 colorways.

An idea is to take the pattern to a well-stocked local quilt shop and shop the Batik section.  The variation in Batiks fabrics is perfect for the Waterfall design, adding depth and sheen to the quilt top. Or, if you're lucky, you might find an online quilt shop owner who will curate a bundle for you from their inventory.

LOG CABIN DESIGN

Waterfall is a log cabin quilt pattern set on point with pieced setting triangles which make the design flow out to the edges of the quilt for a stunning effect.  The setting triangles for each side and the four corners are all different, but don't let that scare you!  Directions are given for exactly how to make this happen.  Easy peasy!

LONGARM MACHINE QUILTING

The Waterfall quilt top was pieced by Kare Ybarra , one of my quilt top makers/pattern testers.  The quilting is Wave on Wave, done on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher in medium blue thread.

The Wave on Wave longarm design is versatile, because it looks pretty much the same whether it's placed horizontally on the quilt top or vertically.  This meant that I was able to place the side (long edge) of the quilt top on the longarm rails, and the quilting stitched out from the actual top of the quilt top to bottom, and the design still looks like swirling water in a waterfall.  If you don't quilt on a longarm, this probably doesn't make any sense to you, so no worries!

NO SEAMS TO MATCH UP

Waterfall has no seams to match up at any point, other than making sure blocks are lined up when the sashed rows are joined together.  How sweet is that?!?

The Waterfall quilt pattern and supplement are available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
