Today I'm sharing a Whimsical quilt in the Throw size! This charm square-friendly quilt pattern is quick and easy, and is assembled in quadrants so there are very few long seams to sew. It goes together easy-peasy!

The Whimsical Quilt Pattern
This stunning quilt pattern is so fun to make and goes together quickly. For the Baby, Throw and Twin sizes, you can use precut charm squares or cut them from your stash. The Queen and King sizes are made with larger piece sizes, so they use fat quarters, or, for more variety, you could use your stash and cut the number of pieces in the sizes indicated in the pattern.

This quilt pattern includes all of the sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King. The design is the same in all of them, and piece sizes vary in the large bed sizes to make the design fill the top of the bed with the borders hanging down the sides and bottom of the.
The Twin is the same design as the Throw but with larger top and bottom borders to bring it to Twin size. This is an odd way to make a quilt size, but it definitely works out perfectly and gives the opportunity for that amazing focus fabric to take center stage with the wide borders.
Fabric Selection
Fabric selection for Whimsical is simple, really. Choose fabrics that stand out against the background color you've chosen. This fabric collection doesn't have very many white or really light prints in it, so in this case, there weren't any prints that simply had to be removed. Then the lightest prints were placed so they didn't touch the white background.
This fabric is Blissful Blooms by Riley Blake, and it's a fantastic mix of beautiful florals in large and small prints in the colors of deep plum, navy, and pink.
This quilt design would also be stunning from solids in a single colorway. Do you purchase those tempting bundles of Kona cotton solids and then wonder what to do with them? This could be the perfect pattern. It's beautiful in teals!
Whimsical Quilt Kits!
We have quilt kits to make this exact Whimsical quilt in the Throw size! The kit includes two charm packs, white background fabric, the plum inner border and binding fabric, and the large flower outer border fabric. There is also coordinating backing fabric in the shop. It's a floral print on white from the collection that is oh - so - pretty! Choose the backing option from the drop-down menu.
Longarm Quilting
The quilting design on this quilt is Feathered Roses, a go-to design I love to use on floral prints. It's a blend of feathers and roses. Thread color is white, quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher, aptly named Gratitude.
Isn't that border fabric so eye-catching?!? I love the bold blend colors in the large flowers, almost appearing as though they were painted with watercolors.
