Today I have a Baby quilt to share with you in a new quilt pattern - meet Bountiful! Sometimes it's hard to cut up beautiful large prints, and this pattern lets them shine instead of being cut into small pieces. This design centers around a larger print, which I call a "focus fabric," mixed with coordinating prints. The pattern includes 7 sizes to make it easy for you to make the size of quilt that fits your needs. There is even a bit of strip piecing because it's my favorite thing!
Along with the focus fabric, the coordinating fabrics can be jelly roll strips, yardage, or fat quarters. FQs can only be used in the bed sizes.
The Bountiful quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
Two Layout Options - Planned and Scrappy
Many fabrics are so beautiful that we want them to show them off in a quilt rather than cut them down into small pieces. The Bountiful pattern is perfect for fabrics like that.
The pattern is written with two options for the coordinating prints. The first option called the Planned layout, using a total of 8 prints along with the focus fabric. There are directions for placement of these 8 prints so they do not end up right next to each other in the quilt, which would be disappointing.
The second option for the coordinating prints called the Scrappy layout, using is a wide variety of prints placed randomly. The Bountiful pattern is written so identical prints in the Scrappy layout wouldn't be placed by each other, unless identical prints are placed in the same strip set (and one just wouldn't do that!).
This quilt is made following the Planned Layout with a focus print and 8 coordinating fabrics.
This is a strip-pieced quilt pattern, and you won't be sewing together individual squares.
All of the Quilt Sizes
This is the Baby size quilt, and it's the perfect size for a Wall Hanging, as well. The Bountiful design works perfectly for so many quilt sizes - 7 in all! You'll find the Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Square Queen, Rectangle Queen, and King bed sizes. Only the Full size didn't work out mathematically. I try to use generous quilt sizes so there is room for shrinkage.
This pattern includes two Queen sizes. Use the Rectangle Queen if you want a pillow tuck, and use the Square Queen directions if you don't want a pillow tuck. If the King size is too long at 113", you could use the Rectangle Queen size and turn it sideways on a King bed.
Baby 43" x 43"
Lap 43" x 57"
Throw 57" x 71"
Twin 71" x 85"
Square Queen 99" x 99"
Rectangle Queen 99" x 113"
King 113" x 113"
Those Beautiful Fabrics
This quilt is made with Mini Fab by Boundless (formerly Craftsy). The focus print is the main print in the collection in Deep Fuchsia, and the coordinating prints are all from the collection, as well. This is the Planned Layout which uses 8 coordinating prints. Colors include fuchsia, yellow, orange, turquoise, apple green, and pink. The background is solid white. The backing is the same focus fabric from the quilt front, and the binding is a turquoise print from the collection.
Longarm Machine Quilting
This quilt was quilted in Double Bubble by Patricia Ritter on my Handi Quilter Amara with Pro Stitcher. Thread color is bright yellow.
This quilt top was sewn and quilted and bound by me.
The Bountiful quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
