Today I'm excited to share the brand new Fireworks quilt pattern! Star patterns are pretty common in my pattern line, and this is the 21st star pattern I've released. You can see all of the star quilt patterns right here.
Fireworks is a fat quarter-friendly quilt pattern that includes six sizes - Baby/Wall Hanging, Lap, Throw, Square Queen, Rectangle Queen, and King. This pattern is also perfect for using up your scraps.
The Fireworks quilt pattern is now in the shop. You can check out all of the Busy Hands Quilts star quilts right here.
Fireworks Quilt Pattern
Fireworks is made with large double star blocks that are made with a smaller eight-point patchwork star inside a larger eight-point star. The large pieced blocks are so eye-catching and fun to make. In this design, the blocks are offset in each row, and the layout varies in a few of the sizes to make the math work out to actual quilt sizes. In all sizes, the star blocks sparkle and shine!
Stash- and Accuquilt-Friendly Pattern
The Fireworks quilt pattern is written for fat quarters, or you could use scraps by cutting the number of pieces in the sizes indicated in the cutting instructions.
The piece sizes in the design are all available as Accuquilt dies, though the pattern does not include specific instructions on how to make the quilt with Accuquilt pieces; you'd have to figure this out on your own. Piece sizes are proprietary to the quilt pattern.
The pieces for this quilt were cut with an Accuquilt Go Big fabric cutter. Block construction is so easy with an Accuquilt fabric cutter as the blocks do not need to be trimmed to size.
Lots of Quilt Sizes Included
The Fireworks quilt pattern includes the following 6 sizes in the instructions:
- Baby / Wall Hanging 48" x 48"
- Lap 48" x 64"
- Throw 64" x 80"
- Square Queen 96" x 96"
- Rectangle Queen 96" x 112"
- King 112" x 112"
Star Spangled Beauty Fabric by Maywood Studio
These beautiful fabrics are from the Star Spangled Beauty fabric collection by Maywood Studio. The colors range from deep red and navy, medium blue, and light blue with creamy white. Prints are florals, stars, dots, and fireworks. While I am tempted to leave out the lighter prints, they are the ones that give the stars a little sparkle, so they work well as long as they have enough contrast against the background color. The background in this quilt is Maywood Studio Shadowplay in Pristine (MAS513-W2). It is a very subtle tone-on-tone.
The fabric for this quilt was provided by Maywood Studio.
Star Spangled Beauty is shipping to stores soon, and we will have it in stock here at Busy Hands Quilts very soon!

Longarm Machine Quilting
This Fireworks quilt was quilted with an allover Star and loop design in natural white thread on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher. The larger stars have a smaller star nested inside of them. The design is nicely visible on the navy blue backing which is a print from the Star Spangled Beauty collection. The same print is used as the binding, as well.
Quilt Sizes and Fabric Requirements
At 48" square, the Wall Hanging size also makes a nice size baby blanket for tummy time!
This pattern includes two Queen sizes - a Square Queen and a Rectangle Queen. Some people want a pillow tuck on their Queen quilts and some people don't - so both sizes are included in my new quilt patterns if they both work out mathematically.
