Busy Hands Quilts: Blessings Throw Quilt in Twilight Creatures

I am pleased to share a new quilt pattern with you! This pattern is called Blessings - a quick and easy, fat quarter friendly design that is perfect for confident beginners and goes together quickly and easily.

This pattern is part of the Donation Quilt Series, which is a group of quilt patterns that are made from large blocks with large pieces and simple designs, so they're cost effective and quick and great for donation to others in need.

Blessings includes 6 sizes and is fat quarter friendly. This pattern works for directional prints, as long as no more than half of the FQs are directional. The pattern includes guidance on using directional prints.

Meet Blessings!

The Blessings quilt pattern is the third pattern in the Donation Quilt Series, which features designs with large blocks and simple piecing for a quick and easy finish. Directional Prints Work!

This fabric collection has a number of directional prints, and Blessings easily works for easily these prints, as long as not more than half of the fat quarters are directional. The pattern gives tips on using directional prints, if you prefer that they all face one direction. I usually don't mind if prints all face the same direction, but I was careful on this quilt to be sure that they do. I just haven't sewn with such cute deer, foxes, hedgehogs, and owl before! I am usually more picky that a directional backing faces the top of a quilt, even though this sometimes requires a bit more backing fabric to make this happen.

I'm giving you all the possible size options for you to work with. Blessings includes 6 sizes in all - Baby, Throw, Twin, Square Queen, Rectangle Queen, and King. This quilt is the Throw size.

Twilight Creatures Fabric

For this Throw size quilt, Twilight Creatures by Natalia Juan Abello for Riley Blake Designs is used in the quilt top, backing, and binding. Included are many wildlife creatures like foxes, deer, raccoons, hedgehogs, and owls in their natural landscape. About half of this collection is directional prints, which work for the Blessings quilt pattern with some preplanning. The quilt pattern includes instructions for how to use directional prints.

Longarm Machine Quilting

The longarm quilting design I used for this quilt is Top Knot in Omni Superior Thread in Silver. This was quilted on my HandiQuilter Amara with ProStitcher. Because of the directional backing, the quilting design was stitched out from top to bottom rather than side to side.
