I've begun a custom full-sized photo quilt, personalized with my customer's pictures and color choices of navy, gray and white in masculine prints. My customer gave me a lot of license with this quilt, and I really love that on custom orders. The quilt will have 35 blocks, 15 of which will have a photo in the center. The remaining block centers will be fabric {of course}!
I made two test blocks today to be sure I had the strip measurements correct before I cut the stack of 15 fabrics. I love how the blocks turned out, and so does my daughter! She is already asking for a quilt in this pattern to match her rainbow bedroom!
The blocks will be laid out alternating a dark then light outer ring. The center fabric pieces will be opposite the outer ring; dark center with light outer ring, and vice versa. The corners of the blocks will also have solid navy and/or gray triangles on each corner. I will wait until all blocks are done and on the design wall before the final decision on the color of the triangles. It may even be my customer doesn't want the triangles after seeing a picture of them added, and I'll give her that option. Right now I like the clean look of these blocks.
I almost backed out of this order when I discovered I needed to print the pictures onto fabric myself, but I'm SO glad I didn't; it's really quite easy! The process takes time, but the steps are really simple. Probably the most difficult step is getting the pictures the size desired, which is 5" square for this project.
This quilt is scheduled to ship before Christmas!
