Night Sky - An Upcoming Quilt Pattern | Finished {or Not!} Friday Linky Party!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished {or Not!} Friday where you can share what you're working on and see what others have been making!

On my design wall is a new quilt pattern called Night Sky.  There are stars in the background and in the blocks, and sometimes my eyes can't see the dark blue stars.  Isn't that kinda strange?  This pattern includes two sizes - throw and queen - and the size difference is made from the size of the blocks.  Look for this new quilt pattern in May.

Fabric is Aria by Kate Spain for Moda Fabrics.  Click here to read more.

For more quilty goodness, you can feast your eyes on this batch of delight.  It's a fat quarter bundle of Peppered Cotton by Studio E with black and grays in Manchester by Robert Kaufman.  Both fabrics have the softest hand, and this quilt will be snuggly cozy for sure.  I'm making a throw size quilt to test a new quilt pattern called Winter Solstice that I'm writing for a fabric company.  You will see this quilt pattern in a similar queen size quilt kit in your favorite quilting magazine in November.  So you'll only be getting sneaky peeks because it's #secretsaucesewing!

Rainbow Quilty Hearts Quilt in Progress | Finished or {Not} Friday Linky Party!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished {or Not!} Friday where you can share what you're working on and see what others have been making!

{Not} Finished is the story of my quilting projects this year.  I'm up to my eyeballs in pattern designing and testing, most of which I can't show you.  But here are some quilt blocks I can show you!

These are {Not} Finished Quilty Hearts quilt blocks in a Boundless Solids rainbow and Moda Crossweave in black, one of my favorite background fabrics ever with a weave of white and black threads.  This fabric doesn't like to stick to the design wall, so after I put them up and snapped a quick pic, they were quickly taken down in rows and stacked on a design board to assemble at some point in the {hopefully} near future.

You will find the Quilty Hearts quilt pattern right over here.  This is the second version of this quilt I've made, and this time I left off the sashing for a different look.

And the rainbow fabric?  It's from a repurposed quilt kit with two or three colors added.  I ♥ purchasing quilt kits at deep discounts and using them in a different pattern because the fabrics are already coordinating and I don't have to think as much.  :)  You'll find the Frequency quilt kit right over here.

It's an Ombre Rainbow! |Threadology Quilt Along Blocks 1 and 2

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

The Threadology Quilt Along has begun, and it's not too late for you to join in the fun, help out a great charity, and make an amazing quilt!  This QAL is hosted by Fat Quarter Shop who is partnering with Moda Fabrics to match up to $10,000 each in donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  A suggested $5 donation is suggested for each block download.

I tried to hold out from participating in the Threadology Quilt Along but was unsuccessful!  I really like the pattern and also like the Bonnie and Camille fabrics it is shown in ... but if I can sneak in a rainbow, I will!

Every two weeks, a new block pattern is released, and we'll make varying numbers of small blocks and big blocks.  Above are the Ohio Star blocks, the first block in the QAL.

The pattern calls for 1/2 yards of 8 fabrics, and I've switched that to a fat quarter bundle of Boundless Blenders Ombre mixed with Moda Cross Weave in Black as the background.  The woven white and black threads read as a dimensional dark gray and is one of my favorite background fabrics.

I divided the quilt plan into rows and gave each row a color of the rainbow.  I'm hoping it turns out the way I envision it; I'm not 100% sure the spool idea will work, but we'll see.

The overkill bug has also caught me, and I'm making double the number of blocks with the plan of making two quilts - one to keep and one to sell, or two to sell, or one huge quilt.  That's another "we'll see!"

For Block 2, the Nine Patch block, I didn't make the big block because it is used in the pieced backing, and I'm not making pieced backings.

It's not too late to join in the Threadology Quilt Along!  You can read more about it in this post.

Window Shopping!

I love to share some fun things I came across in my online window shopping this week.  Here are my top 4.
  1. Field Trip, a quilt kit I designed for Bluprint in Strawberry Fizz, is now available.
  2. The Skipper Quilt Along hosted by Gigi's Thimble is beginning soon.
  3. In a poll my readers took, many of you liked Dream Chasers.  This fabric collection is now on clearance right here.
  4. A Rainbow Maker sticker would be perfect for the back of my computer, and probably yours too!  Check this and other fun stickers out right here.

Rainbow Quilty Hearts Quilt Along in Twin Size!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

This Valentine's Day I'm working on a rainbow Quilty Hearts twin quilt.  This is a Quilt Along hosted by Emily of Quilty Love over on Instagram.  Well, the Quilt Along has ended, and I'm not done!  Pattern design submissions have been my priority over the last few weeks, so I haven't been sewing much.

This quilt is made from a repurposed Craftsy Frequency quilt kit.  I often buy quilt kits on sale and repurpose them to other projects.  This quilt needs three hues of eight colorways, and the Frequency quilt kit had all but three of the fabrics I needed, and the missing ones were easily pulled from my stash.  The background is Kona Shadow.

I'm also making a twin size rainbow Quilty Hearts quilt with a Moda Cross Weave in black background.  The black and white threads woven together give it a deeply textured gray look which is fantastic.  You can see all of the colors that Cross Weave comes in right here.

These quilts will be for sale in my shop in March since I don't have a quilting machine to finish them right now.  I am upgrading my longarm, so I am unable to quilt for a few weeks.  I will be quilting faster than ever with the new machine which flies 600 stitches per minute faster than my previous machine. :)

I've added to my Fabric Destash on Instagram! Check it out! You do not have to have an Instagram account to view my page on your computer.  Click the link and view away.  EMail me to purchase an item.

Connecting Threads is having a sale on Pink and Red Fabrics.  Red is a hard color to get a lot of variety in, so this is a great way to round out the red stash!

Bluprint is offering a special Valentine's Day Deal!  Save $10 off an Annual Subscription plus get 12 Own Forever video classes that you will own even if you let your Bluprint subscription expire in the future.  Get the extensive Bluprint offerings and 12 classes for only $69.99.  This offer is good through February 17th.

Happy Valentine's Day!  Hopefully your day will have some quilty time!

Quilty Hearts Quilt Along - My Fabric Selection!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I am participating in the Quilty Hearts Quilt Along hosted by Emily of Quilty Love over on Instagram from January 15th to Feb 5th.  This is my fabric selection - a rainbow, of course!

The Quilty Hearts pattern is written with traditional piecing, sewing individual squares together, but you know I am a stripper at ♥, so I plan to strip piece my quilts.

Yes - quiltS!  There is enough fabric here to make two Twin XL quilts.  One will have a light gray background, and the other background is still being determined.  Backing for both quilts will be my favorite extra-wide backing - Widescreen in Gray.  You will get a discount from Fat Quarter Shop if you buy a whole bolt - just ask!

All but three of these solids are from a repurposed Frequency quilt kit.  I love to get quilt kits on clearance and use their fabrics for other projects, especially solid quilt kits.  It's a great way to collect a wider variety of coordinating colors without buying yardage, and the background fabric (usually white or gray) is always useful.  The Frequency quilt kit is now on clearance at a fantastic price right here!

Hmmm, seeing Frequency again makes me think I need to buy another kit and make the actual pattern in it!

A Non Scrap User Using Scraps!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Regular blog readers know that I am not a scrappy quilter and regularly give my scraps away here on the blog.  {Follow to not miss the giveaways!}  But something possessed me last week to sew leftover strip sets and rectangles into coin strips.  A lot of my patterns include strip piecing {so we can finish more quilts!}, and a small section is usually leftover after they are cut into segments.

And here's the full length of them.  Three of these strips are from quilts you haven't even seen yet!  The two on the right are leftover strip sets from twin size Pixelation quilts - the sunrise version hasn't been shown in full here on the blog yet.  It will be one of the first quilts that Gratitude stitches when she gets back from the longarm hospital today - 9 quilts are waiting for her to show up for work again!

And yes, I will still have scraps to give away because there are always odd sizes that will not work for coin quilts.  And no, hopefully no, the giveaways won't include these strips!

9 Quilt Tops Awaiting!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Yes, 9 quilt tops await quilting!  The good news is that Gratitude, my longarm machine, will be back and better than ever on Thursday after having been in the longarm hospital for most of March.  Maybe you'll see one of these quilts on Finished or Not Friday!

All but two of these quilts are hanging with their backings ready to go.  The two that don't have backings with them are baby size, so no piecing is necessary and I haven't pulled the fabric out ahead of time.  From left to right:
  1. Pixelation in twin size, white to black, pattern available on preorder here.
  2. Custom twin size triangle quilt with pieced backing and matching pillow sham.
  3. Row Addition baby quilt from the Modern Plus Sign blog hop, pattern in this book.
  4. Row Addition baby quilt from the Modern Plus Sign blog hop.
  5. Postcard From Sweden baby quilt, pattern available here.
  6. Precarious baby quilt in Kona Cotton and Crossweave in black {secret sauce sewing!}, pattern available in this book.
  7. Scrappy Patches table topper made from fabric in the July 2017 Sew Sampler Box, pattern available here.  The items I don't need from this box will be given away when this quilt top is completed and featured on the blog!  Become a friendly follower and don't miss the GIVEAWAY!
  8. Twin quilt with pieced backing for an upcoming Fat Quarter Shop Quilt Along in Kaffe Fassett fabrics {also secret sauce sewing!}  This FREE pattern will soon be available on FQS's Free Pattern Page here.
  9. Pixelation in twin size, red to orange to yellow, pattern available on preorder here.
Not shown are the quilt tops I plan to whip out today and tomorrow as I clean up my sewing room before boxes and boxes of fabric love arrive on my doorstep!  I have 7 quilts for fabric companies to bust out in the next two months.  Did ya catch that?  Yep, some of my patterns will be showing up in fabric company catalogs later this year, and some of them will be kitted for you!  SQUEAL!!

Now that you're dizzy, here's a Mystery just for you, today only!  Add any Craftsy class or DVD to your cart in the next 24 hours to reveal your special discount - but hurry, time's a ticking. Use the code SPINTOSAVE at checkout.

Postcard From Sweden Quilt Top

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I'm making a baby Postcard From Sweden for the Quilt Along over at MMM Quilts.  Since I'm using leftover pieces from previous POS quilts, the HSTs are placed randomly, not according to the original pattern.  I have enough blocks for one more baby quilt.  Here is the first quilt top.

The HSTs were cut with my Accuquilt Go! and the 6" HST die, saving a ton of time.

You'll find a fabric that looks like the Postcard quilt over here.  It would make a great backing for a quilt!

Modern Plus Quilts Blog Hop | Finished or Not Friday Linky Party!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished or Not Friday where you can share your finished {or not} projects!

Today is also an extra special day here on the blog - it's my stop on the Modern Plus Sign Quilts book hop!  Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs and Paige Alexander of Quilted Blooms have designed 16 quilts based on the Plus Sign block, and there are so many designs to fall in love with in the book!

My Not Finished is two Row Addition baby quilts.  I ♥ this quilt pattern!  My first thought was to make a queen with 20 different grunges, and I even planned it all out in EQ8.  Then I realized I could make two baby quilts to give you ideas on color options for this quick, easy, and fun pattern!  Some boyish chevron fabrics in my stash became the inspiration for which Grunges I used in each quilt.

The second version seems so college preppy, perfect for a newborn boy, right?!?

I had every intention of having these quilts finished for the book hop, even making them quite a bit ahead of time which is not my usual MO, but my longarm began giving me fits while quilting the first quilt and is now in the longarm hospital receiving some special care.  #idonthavetimeforthis #verypoortimingindeed

Quilt Stats:

Pattern:  Row Addition from Modern Plus Quilts
Size:  41" x 46"
Fabric:  Moda Grunge
Backing:  Riley Blake chevron

And here is the Row Addition quilt pictured in the Modern Plus Quilts Book.
Be sure to check out the other stops today in the Modern Plus Quilt book hop!  You can view the full book hop schedule here.  Cheryl and Paige have giveaways during the book hop as well, so be sure to follow along!

Twin Triangle Quilt | Finished or Not Friday Linky Party

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished or Not Friday where you can share your finished {or not} projects!

My Not Finish is a pile of fabrics for a custom order.  I know I said no more customs, but this is for a repeat customer who makes them for her children when they turn two years old.  Each month until they are two, she takes a picture of them on a fabric piece and then makes a quilt out of the 24 fabrics.  I couldn't resist the project!

But these fabrics will be waiting while other deadlines loom ahead.  What I've really been doing all day, every day is this ... sitting at my desk with a mess of papers and scratching my head for some super secret quilt pattern designing!  You will see what I'm working on in the fall, and I can't wait to show you!!

Splash of Color Quilt Along | Quilt Blocks

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today is the third step in the SPLASH of Color Quilt Along at Busy Hands Quilts!  We're showing off our quilt blocks!

Over the next four weeks we'll be assembling our quilt blocks with two linky parties two weeks apart to share our progress.  Aim for finishing half of your blocks over the next two weeks, and work ahead of you want to.

My pattern choice - Seeing Spots from Splash of Color is made from triangles rather than blocks, so I am showing the triangles pieced into rows.  I enjoyed piecing the rows so much that I just couldn't stop halfway through, so all of the rows are assembled.  The colored fabrics are ombre, so I placed the darker triangles on the outer rows and the lighter ones in the middle rows.  The right row didn't fit on my design wall, so it's not shown.

My second quilt is my very own Granny's Square Patch pattern!  Here are the center blocks of the quilt.

Spread the word, share on your blogs and social media!

I hope you'll join us in the SPLASH of Color Quilt Along!  Please share about the quilt along on your blog and social media with #splashofcolorQAL and tag me @busyhandsquilts.
