Finished or not Friday a Linky Party | My Sewing Room!

Welcome to Finished or Not Friday where you can share your finished {or not} projects!

My finish is setting up my new sewing studio!  My new longarm machine had to go in my previous sewing room since that's the only place it would fit in the house, so my sewing room is now in the open space at the top of the stairs. It's 3' narrower and 3' less deep than my previous space, and it's quite squished cozy.

Here's the room from the top of the stairs.  Next to me on both sides are doors to my three kids' bedrooms.  I try not to sew before they get up, and this week has been a challenge because they're all on spring break from high school and college, and, well, they've been sleeping in!!

Heading around the room from left to right.  My huge cutting table that's 36" x 75" with one leaf up.  My sweet husband saw it for free along the road a few years ago.

I doubled the shelving in the new room because the bookshelves that I emptied to take over the room needed a new purpose.  Fabric!  I was able to spread my fabrics out a bit, so I can actually see what I've got and access it easily.

And for full disclosure and because it's fun to see how much stash others have, here's a picture of my fabric closet {a.k.a. the master bedroom closet}, taken when I had the door off to move the dresser out and clean it up.  My handy husband put the door back on before I could take an after picture, and there's no room for a picture with the door on since it swings in from the left side of this picture.  Floor to ceiling fabric and batting on two walls.

Back to the bright side of things.  Then there's the ironing station that my husband built me out of an old cabinet.  It easily fits WOF and is set away from the wall so the fabric can hang over the back.

And my sewing table, holding my Juki TL-2010 which I love dearly.  There are storage boxes under the drop leaf of the table.

And the stair railing.

There is a walkway to the bathroom next to my sewing table, which reduces the usable space quite a bit.

And because the purpose of all of this is to create quilts, here is a quilt I quilted on my new HQ Fusion this week!  It's a panel, quilted in a digital edge-to-edge heart design.  I must get back to sewing so I have more things to quilt - it's so fun on the new machine!

Thanks for stopping by to tour my new sewing room!

Wow!!! I will have to study these in more detail (love getting set-up/storage ideas for sewing spaces) because I'll be setting my own space up in short order. I love this cheery organized space you have created.

Oh, your new sewing corner is nice and bright. It's perfect! and considering you HAD to move for a new longarm, well I think any old corner would be worth that! I sacrificed my master bedroom and closet for my sewing room and stash too. Love the pics. Thanks for sharing.

Love the room and the window! This looks like a fun place to sew. And the rail is a perfect place to hang your quilt tops. Hope you get to enjoy your new space even more!

It looks fabulous! I know what you mean about sleeping teenagers--my daughter's sleeping schedule always made it so I got a late start in my sewing room. She just found out she did get her summer internship in her college's admission office--I am sad she will not be home, but the silver lining is I can get into my sewing room much earlier!

What an understanding spouse give how you've taken over the closet with fabric :-)

This is so funny!!! and I so relate!! My one and only is 27 now and was (is) a world class sleeper! Thank you for showing your new setup. And yes, I also enjoyed seeing that closet. You have a very sweet husband, but I'm sure you already know that!

I just love your new sewing space. My favorite part is the ironing station. It is spinning wheels in my head on making one. I hate that a regular ironing board necks down on one end which does not cater well to pressing quilt tops and backs.

Also, I too believe that "Families are Forever"! We must be part of the same religion. I too have three kids but they are recently married or serving away from home. We have so much in common.
