The Snappy Squares quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
9 Sizes in All!
I love to do all of the math for you, so you can make the exact quilt size you want without doing any extra calculations. I am here for the math! :) This pattern includes two Throw sizes and two Queen sizes so you can make the perfect fit for your needs.
Snappy Squares includes 9 quilt sizes, so the quilts you make will really meet the true needs of the people you create for.
- Baby 44" x 44"
- Crib 44" x 55"
- Lap 55" x 65"
- Throw 55" x 76"
- Large Throw 65" x 87"
- Full 87" x 87"
- Square Queen 98" x 98"
- Rectangular Queen 98" x 108"
- King 108" x 108"
Working within the bounds of that thing called MATH, I make every effort to design quilt sizes that are oversized in the bed sizes to account for shrinkage when you wash your quilts and to account for today's thicker mattresses. Plus, this lessens fighting over the covers!
Layer Cake, Fat Quarter, and Scrap Bin Friendly!
You'll love that the fabric you have on hand will work in Snappy Squares. Peruse your 10" layer cake square stacks, because the Throw size uses a layer cake perfectly, using 35 out of the 40/42 squares. This leaves a little leeway to remove the prints that are too close in color to the sashing color.
You can also use fat quarters for Snappy Squares. I've done all of the math for you and figured out how many blocks you'll get from one FQ. You might be surprised!
In addition to the above precut fabric options, there is a chart in the pattern that tells you how many pieces of each size to cut to make each quilt size, making this pattern perfect for using your scrap bins!
You can see that what you have in your stash is most likely perfect to use for the Snappy Squares pattern!
Print Placement in the Blocks
There are three ideas for print placement in each block, and each of these placement ideas result in a unique quilt.
- Place the prints at random
- Use the same print in each block
- Use a single colorway with several prints in a block
The fabric in each of the three quilt mockups above is Mistletoe & Holly by Beverly McCullough for Riley Blake Designs. This collection is currently available right here.
Those Sweet Fabrics!
This cheery fabric collection is Vibrance by Leslie Ryan for Riley Blake Designs. Included are florals, geometrics, and tone-on-tones in pink, aqua, purple, orange, and gold. This collection is really versatile in many quilt designs.
You will find Vibrance precuts in the Busy Hands Quilts shop right here.
Longarm Machine Quilting
Finishing up this quilt is the digital longarm machine quilting design called Ribbon Curls. The circling ribbons calm the many square corners in the quilt top. Quilted on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher in white thread.
