To-Do Monday April 4th

My To-Do list for the week of April 4th, 2016 includes projects at every stage - piecing, quilting, and binding.  Plus a blank wall.

On Saturday I began to feel like I was coming down with the crud that my family has had over the last several weeks, so I decided I'd better get something quilted in case I go to-bed-o for an unknown number of days as some of them have.  As of today, I'm happy to report that I don't feel like going to-bed-o during the day, so I'm hoping to get a few things done this week.  Quilting anyway.  Maybe nothing else, but surely some quilting!  ;)

So here's what I quilted.  Enjoy a teasing peek at an upcoming pattern, very soonly upcoming!  I so love red, aqua and white!  This pic shows the setting triangles that gave me so much grief; as you can see, they are not the usual.  Never fear - I've done the math and included diagrams and pictures to make it easy for you.  You'll soon see how much a traditional quilt pattern is changed by setting it on point!

The tiny red dot is the border, and the aqua circles at the top is the backing.  This quilt is made from Snapshot Quilt Along and Backing Kits that I bought when the Fat Quarter Shop was nearly giving them away a few weeks ago!!  I'm all for repurposing quilt kits when I don't care for the pattern, or I love the pattern but just don't have time to make it, as in the Snapshots QAL.  You can see quilt kits I've repurposed in Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt and my Miss Kate Sliding Glass Door Curtains.

I've made progress on my Army brown and green 9-patch blocks.  They are for a 9-Patch Plaid tutorial I'm posting over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for the Nifty Nines Quilt Along as part of the Hands 2 Help charity quilt drive.  I wrote a super easy tutorial using color placement as the key to making it pop.  It was so fun to create mock-ups of the pattern in various color schemes using EQ7, and I'll be sure to show lots of them to help with color selection.  I've also included pressing directions so everything butts together for super fast sewing without pins {my favorite!!}  This pattern is super fast and great for donation quilts where time is usually of the essence.  If you read my Tips for Piecing Straight Strip Sets Tutorial, you'll be well prepared to whip out a 9-Patch Plaid quilt in no time!

Awaiting quilting is a custom full-size Starboard quilt in Moda Summer Breeze.  It's on hold, awaiting the arrival of white batting.  Several of you commented that white batting is not necessary, and I would like to know if you're right, so I'll take a picture of the white and standard beige laid out side by side to compare and let you know the result.

And here is my lonesome design wall.  She hasn't been empty for a long time and is begging for a new project!  Not that I've finished the three mini quilts that were on her, but that is beside the point.  They had to be taken down to put up the blocks for my upcoming pattern!

What are you working on this week?

I know what the design wall is missing. All the little threads that are covering mine! Glad you are feeling better.

I'm glad you didn't catch the bug. I just love red, white, and aqua together and can't wait to see the pattern you've made. That setting triangle is definitely interesting! Have a wonderful week!

What pretty projects to have completed or just soon-to-be! So glad you dodged that creepy crud going around your family. Stay well!
