Formation Throw Quilt in Moda Grunge Seeing Spots!

Today I'm sharing a Throw size Formation quilt.  It's a quick and easy flying geese quilt.

This quilt is sewn up with Moda Grunge Hits the Spot fabrics by my professional sewist, Kare.

Oh Those Fabrics!

This Formation quilt is sewn up with Moda Grunge Hits the Spots.  I chose colors that are modern and masculine - browns, grays, and green - on a creamy white background.  The entire quilt is made with Moda Grunge, including the flying geese, background, backing, and binding.  Moda Grunge fabrics add such a nice depth and texture to quilts, and I love to use them whenever I can.

Moda Grunge has hundreds of colors in the regular Grunge line (no dots or stars), and a wide range of colors available in the Grunge Seeing Stars and Grunge Hits the Spot collections.  I like to buy Moda Grunge here and here because most any color is in stock.

Formation Quilt

I'm thrilled to be sharing this fun and modern quilt with you today!  This is the first all flying geese quilt I've ever made.  Many other quilts I've made have included flying geese to make up stars and other designs, but this is my first stand-alone flying geese quilt.

Flying geese can be a little tricky to make.   The trick is to be accurate at every step and to use a scant 1/4" seam.  Sometimes those points can get snipped off and not be perfect, and guess what?  That's totally okay!  My professional sewist, Kare, was spot-on with her points, and that's why I hired her and I am constantly saying she sews better than I do!  :)  But don't beat yourself up about non-perfect points; she has a lot of experience, so beware of comparing your work to someone else's.  :{

Fat Quarter Quilt!

Formation was made with Fat Quarters.  It seems like we all have a number of fat quarters in our stash because they're just so hard to resist because they give us a nice chunk of fabric to ooh and ahh over.  Of course, I could have used scraps, too.

Longarm Quilting

This modern Formation Throw quilt is quilted with Maze, a digital design, in white thread on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.  This dense, repeated design is the perfect modern complement to the modern design of the quilt pattern.  Quilted and bound by me.

The binding of this quilt is also made with Moda Grunge Seeing Spots for a coordinated finish.  The binding of a quilt gets so much use and needs a special shoutout here!
