Midnight Mystery Quilt Along {Fabric Selection}

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

ETA:  07/14/2015  I have decided on aqua for fabric D and changed fabric B to a white fabric with tiny red dots.  Thanks for all your ideas!

You know it, I am a sucker for quilt alongs.  I really, really enjoy quilting along with others.  Sometimes I get behind, sometimes I don't - it all depends on if there are giveaways or not!!  The worst part about hosting the GRAVITY QAL is I'm not eligible for the prizes!!

These are my fabric selections for the Midnight Mystery Quilt Along.  Well, for some it's a mystery quilt, but for me it's not.  I have learned that I am really not a mystery quilter, so when Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs gave the option of seeing the quilt first, I took the opportunity.  Knowing the pattern, I decided to join in.  I still had a very hard time selecting fabrics from my stash.  My selections center around my Flower Sugar scraps.

Please help me decide which fabric to use for D.  Picture 1 has a bright pink with red polka dots, and picture 2 has a light pink with tiny white polka dots, and Picture 3 has an aqua.  Of note is the fabrics touch in the order they are pictured; A is next to B is next to C is next to D.  This was revealed and is not part of the mystery, so I'm not giving anything up.  Thanks for your help!

There's still time to join the QAL.  It runs June 2015 through March 2016 with one step revealed per month.  I ♥ having so much time between steps because I always have many projects going at the same time.  Fabric selection was June's step, and July's step is cutting.  Still plenty of time to begin, friends!  And there are prizes!!

Picture 2 the light pink blends better with your other choices.

I think it depends on the contrast you want to have. I like how the first one ties into C with the dots, but I also like that there is more contrast with the second one.

I love picture 1

The first one is my LEAST favorite! I am leaning more towards the second one.

I think it depends on the overall distribution of the D fabric across the quilt. The first is my favorite, but because of the large print it may take away from the overall design (or maybe not). The second one is more muted but there is a lot of pink in all the roses in the other pieces, so maybe you don't want too much pink. The third one may give you more contrast but that may break the overall design as well :) yeah, I am not a much of mystery quilter either, as you may have deduced from all the "but" :) loving the fabric you choose though!! thanks for sharing

I like pic 1 and 3 the best. I think number two will 'disappear' in the design - but not having seen it, maybe not. I think the pop of bright in 1 and 3 will add a lot of interest. So there, how helpful was that?!?! LOL

Go BOLD with Picture #1! That hot pink will surprise you in the end and it will be fabulous!

I like picture three! That blue looks great next to every fabric in the lot!

I like 1 and 3, and would say it depends on what colors you want to draw out from the prints under A. If you like pink best, go with 1. If blue is more your favorite, then 3. I like mysteries too, you still have time to join Scrap Dance if you like!

Oh it's very tricky really... and it all depends on just how much of fabric D is going to be used I'd say! Look forward to seeing just what you decide to do! (he,he I'm no help am I?!?!)

Beautiful fabric choices! I haven't started anything new since January, maybe I'm due for a new project. I really do like mystery quilt alongs.
