Hampton Court Quilt Along Finished Quilt Parade!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today is the Finished Quilt Parade for the Hampton Court Quilt Along!

Fabric Selection

My main goal in making this quilt was that it be made entirely from fabric I had in my stash, which rarely happens since I am so often making cover quilts in a single fabric collection.

My second goal was to make a single-color Hampton Court quilt with prints that had only white in them in order to show that this pattern doesn't have to be a mix of a lot of colors.  The only colorway in my stash with enough variety of prints with only white in them was black.  So black it was!  This design would be amazing in all bright blue, which was my first choice.  Pretty much any color would be great!

The backing is a black/white print I had in my stash.  It's a tiny circular designs connected together.  The binding is a black/white stripe, also from my stash.

Quilting

The longarm quilting design is Crystal Ball by Karlee P, quilted in black thread.  This design adds lovely texture and dimension to the quilt.  Quilting was done on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher.

About Hampton Court

The Hampton Court quilt pattern includes four sizes - Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - and is entirely strip pieced for a much quicker finish than sewing together individual bricks.

The Hampton Court design is inspired by King Henry VIII's castle, Hampton Court, from the 1500s.  The design, with varying brick sizes, can be found in the brickwork on the exterior of the castle.

Finished Quilts in the Quilt Along!

Portia completed the Throw size in a variety of fat quarters.

Darlene finished the Throw size using a FQ bundle of Easter fabrics with a purple background.

Thank you to everyone who participated at any of the steps in the Quilt Along.  I understand that sometimes life gets in the way and it's difficult to keep up with the steps.  I hope at some point you finish your quilts and share them with me.  That would really make my day!

Make Strip Sets

Over the next two weeks we're making strip sets and cutting segments.

Here are my strip sets; I haven't cut the segments yet.  I was going to make a blue and white quilt but didn't have enough blues in the stash and had plenty of black prints, so black and white it is!  Because the three other Hampton Court quilts I've made have a variety of colors in them, I wanted this one to be a single colorway with white.

Prizes!

One random participant will receive their choice of two PDF Download quilt patterns from my shop, Busy Hands Quilts!

Be sure I have a way to contact you without having to do a bunch of sleuthing.  If you are a no-reply blogger, I can't reach you.

The winner from last week's link-up is Linda!

Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along Finished Quilt Parade!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Thank you to all who have quilted along in the Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along!  It has been so fun to see this quilt pattern in so many different colorways.  Today is the parade of finished quilts!

I finished two Jelly Roll Waves quilts for the quilt along.  First up is a Large Lap in mostly Scrumptious prints by Bonnie and Camille.

I made the second Jelly Roll Waves quilt differently than any of the JRW quilts I've made before.  This time low volumes were placed as the waves rather than as the background, and the prints were placed as the background which created sparkling, multi-colored gems on the edges of the waves.  The result is a truly modern quilt for a subtle splash of color over the sofa.

In no particular order, here are the seven finished quilts!

Alycia from Quilty Girl

It's great to see Jelly Roll Waves in masculine colors since we use more traditionally feminine colors so much.  I haven't seen many JRW quilts with the waves placed horizontally like this, so this quilt is doubly unique!  The pattern includes instructions on placing the waves both vertically and horizontally.

Anja Quilts

The happiest of baby quilts with organic wavy quilting.

Julie at Spud Quilting Adventure

Jelly Roll Waves looks nice with a border too and is a nice, easy way to make a quilt larger.

KatieMayToo Quilts

The quilting is wonderful on this quilt.

Lisa at Sunlight in Winter Quilts

This is the only entry with each wave a single color.  Instructions are given in the pattern to make single-color waves, but it still takes a bit of effort to wrap the brain around it.  Lisa did a great job figuring it out!

Danice at Homespun Hannah

Another quilt with the waves placed horizontally.  Danice named this Pickle Waves.  I see alligators.  :)

Quilting at the Lake

The deep gray background is spectacular.  The square patches in the border are not included in the pattern and are a great way to increase the size or use leftover pieces.

It's a wrap!  Thanks again to all who participated.

If you haven't yet purchased Jelly Roll Waves, you'll find it right here in my shop.

WINNER!

The random winner from the finished quilt linkup is Anja, with a prize three PDF quilt patterns from Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs.

Patchwork Forest Quilt Along!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Busy Hands Quilts is sponsoring several prize packages of PDF quilt patterns in the Patchwork Forest Quilt Along!  The quilt along is hosted by Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter using her Pine Hollow quilt pattern.  The pattern includes Throw and Twin sizes, the Twin size being made by adding a wider border but with the same number of blocks.  The Quilt Along is just getting started, and there's still plenty of time to join the fun!  Read more about the Quilt Along by clicking here.

You'll find the quilt pattern and curated quilt kits in several color schemes right here.

Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along | Finished Quilts!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Thank you to all who have quilted along in the Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along!  Today the linkup for finished quilts opens.  It's time to see your beautiful quilts all finished up!

I finished two Jelly Roll Waves quilts for the quilt along.  First up is a Large Lap in mostly Scrumptious prints by Bonnie and Camille.

The feminine quilting really brings the quilt top to life.

Last year I traded Andrea a large box of Bonnie and Camille fabric for custom quilting, and all of the fabric in this quilt, including the backing and binding, came from that box.  Sew fun!

This quilt was made using traditional piecing, sewing one piece at a time together, because I was using strips of fabric rather than yardage.  They weren't actually jelly roll strips; they were layer cakes that had been cut into strips already.  The pattern includes strip piecing as well as traditional piecing which speeds up the process.  Either way you piece, though, it still goes together very quickly.

All fabrics in the quilt top are from Alison Glass collections - Sun Print Light and various Sun Print collections.  This quilt was strip pieced from strips of fabric using a Fat Quarter bundle of AG Sun Print Lights.

Quilting is a modern design that looks like flames or wood bark, whichever you see it as.

Backing is a black and medium gray hatch print, and the matching binding brings a striking, bold frame to the quilt.

This quilt will be for sale in my quilt shop!

WINNER!

The random winner from the quilt top linkup is Katie May, with a prize three PDF quilt patterns from Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs.

A random winner from the Finished Quilt link-up will be announced on September 24th.  The random winner from this linkup will receive three PDF quilt patterns from Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs.

This here's the schedule.  Each post will be at noon:

It's an Ombre Rainbow! |Threadology Quilt Along Blocks 1 and 2

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

The Threadology Quilt Along has begun, and it's not too late for you to join in the fun, help out a great charity, and make an amazing quilt!  This QAL is hosted by Fat Quarter Shop who is partnering with Moda Fabrics to match up to $10,000 each in donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  A suggested $5 donation is suggested for each block download.

I tried to hold out from participating in the Threadology Quilt Along but was unsuccessful!  I really like the pattern and also like the Bonnie and Camille fabrics it is shown in ... but if I can sneak in a rainbow, I will!

Every two weeks, a new block pattern is released, and we'll make varying numbers of small blocks and big blocks.  Above are the Ohio Star blocks, the first block in the QAL.

The pattern calls for 1/2 yards of 8 fabrics, and I've switched that to a fat quarter bundle of Boundless Blenders Ombre mixed with Moda Cross Weave in Black as the background.  The woven white and black threads read as a dimensional dark gray and is one of my favorite background fabrics.

I divided the quilt plan into rows and gave each row a color of the rainbow.  I'm hoping it turns out the way I envision it; I'm not 100% sure the spool idea will work, but we'll see.

The overkill bug has also caught me, and I'm making double the number of blocks with the plan of making two quilts - one to keep and one to sell, or two to sell, or one huge quilt.  That's another "we'll see!"

For Block 2, the Nine Patch block, I didn't make the big block because it is used in the pieced backing, and I'm not making pieced backings.

It's not too late to join in the Threadology Quilt Along!  You can read more about it in this post.

Window Shopping!

I love to share some fun things I came across in my online window shopping this week.  Here are my top 4.
  1. Field Trip, a quilt kit I designed for Bluprint in Strawberry Fizz, is now available.
  2. The Skipper Quilt Along hosted by Gigi's Thimble is beginning soon.
  3. In a poll my readers took, many of you liked Dream Chasers.  This fabric collection is now on clearance right here.
  4. A Rainbow Maker sticker would be perfect for the back of my computer, and probably yours too!  Check this and other fun stickers out right here.

Quilty Hearts Quilt Along - My Fabric Selection!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I am participating in the Quilty Hearts Quilt Along hosted by Emily of Quilty Love over on Instagram from January 15th to Feb 5th.  This is my fabric selection - a rainbow, of course!

The Quilty Hearts pattern is written with traditional piecing, sewing individual squares together, but you know I am a stripper at ♥, so I plan to strip piece my quilts.

Yes - quiltS!  There is enough fabric here to make two Twin XL quilts.  One will have a light gray background, and the other background is still being determined.  Backing for both quilts will be my favorite extra-wide backing - Widescreen in Gray.  You will get a discount from Fat Quarter Shop if you buy a whole bolt - just ask!

All but three of these solids are from a repurposed Frequency quilt kit.  I love to get quilt kits on clearance and use their fabrics for other projects, especially solid quilt kits.  It's a great way to collect a wider variety of coordinating colors without buying yardage, and the background fabric (usually white or gray) is always useful.  The Frequency quilt kit is now on clearance at a fantastic price right here!

Hmmm, seeing Frequency again makes me think I need to buy another kit and make the actual pattern in it!
