A Trip Around the World Quilt Along at Busy Hands Quilts!!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

A few weeks ago I asked if any of you were interested in participating in a Trip Around the World Quilt Along, and some of you said YES!  So let's do it!  Just in time for your Thanksgiving decorations!

This Quilt Along will be centered around the Trip Around the World Quilt Kit featuring Benartex Gradations at Craftsy.  Isn't this a totally amazing quilt!!!

And get FREE SHIPPING at Craftsy with the Coupon Code → CozyUp!

The pattern in the quilt kit is by Nancy Smith and is what I'll be following, and you will need your own copy for specifics as I will not be sharing them here because they are copyrighted.  Get your copy today!  It's short notice, so don't delay!

And because I know some of you will ask - YES, you can use your own fabrics as long as it's a Trip Around the World pattern!  The pattern included in the kit is not available separately.  It uses jelly roll strips.  I have not found a free pattern that uses jelly rolls.  I will let you know what steps in this tutorial → Trip Around the World from Quiltville ← most closely match the steps we're working on in the Craftsy kit.  You can get your fabric requirements from that tutorial, and be sure to use the 9-fabric version if you want it to look similar to the one in the kit.

Please note that by aligning the steps between the pattern and the tutorial I am not giving away the pattern by Nancy Smith.  It is different than the tutorial, and I will not be divulging steps or tips that are exclusive to the pattern.  Copyright and moral laws prohibit me from doing so.

Link-Ups

Each step of the Quilt Along will have a link-up here on the blog where you can share your progress.  Each link representing completion of that step will be entered in the giveaway.

Prizes

The prizes will be PDF patterns from Busy Hands Patterns.  If you want to jump on board as a sponsor, let me know ASAP!

Schedule

The Quilt Along will run from today, Monday, October 10th through December 5th with two weeks between each step.

  • Link up your fabric selections below.  Link-up closes Sunday, October 23rd.
  • Monday, October 24th:  Quilt Along begins with sewing strip sets and tubes together and cutting into segments.  This is steps 1-8 in the pattern, ending at the top of page 4.
  • Monday, November 7th:  Assembly of sections and quilt top.  This is steps 1-5 on pages 4 and 5 of the pattern, as well as steps 1-4 on pages 6-8.
  • Monday, November 21st:  Finished quilts!
  • Quilt Along ends December 5th with a Finished Quilt Grand Parade!

Promote the Quilt Along!

Please help get the word out by sharing this on your blog, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram and entering via the Rafflecopter below.  Please give the exact link to your pin, post, etc.; I won't go hunting it down.

This Giveaway ends Sunday, October 23rd.

You do not have to participate in the Quilt Along to promote it!  I don't think it's tacky at all to share the QAL with others and enter this giveaway even if you don't plan to participate!

How do I get a copy of the pattern without buying the kit? I don't have a Trip Around the World pattern and would love to use my own fabrics. I don't want to use someone else's instructions and get confused.

I've wanted to make a TAtW for so long! I'm a bit overwhelmed with life stuff now, though, so I won't be able to participate this time. I will, however, watch and enjoy everyone else's projects.

What a great idea. I'm still debating if I can fit this in, because I do love this pattern. I posted about it on my Quilt BOM blog, though. You should get a ping.
