Custom Sunrise Over the Horizon Queen Quilt Set | Finished or Not Friday Linky Party!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished {or Not!} Friday where you can share what you're working on and see what others have been making!

I finally have a finish to show that is from this year!  This is a queen size Sunrise Over the Horizon quilt set, made as a custom order.

I have made this quilt design twice in the past - a twin and a lap - but with gray in the background.  My customer envisioned a pinky purple and selected Kona Cerise from the color chart.  I had no idea it would be so beautiful; it's truly breathtaking!  The backing and binding are also Kona Cerise.

And that lap quilt with gray??  You'll find it for sale right over here!

The coordinating pillow shams are two mini quilts with envelope openings on the back.  I used my most used quilting book to get the correct sizes for the quilt shams.  When the shams are placed side by side, they echo the color movement of reds down to green/blues.

My longarm has been out for maintenance, and I was unable to quilt this quilt myself before its due date, so I had to find a local quilter to quilt it for me in quick quilty time {I thought that sentence needed another Q or two}.  There has been a great benefit to the timing of this snafu.

Two years ago when I bought my HQ Fusion with Prostitcher, I taught myself how to use it from the ground up with YouTube videos, and right over there, less than 10 miles away, is a real, honest to goodness HQ Instructor!!  Oh, if I had known about her sooner!  Megan Best is a gem of a lady with an amazing knowledge of quilting and the most incredible quilting room I have ever seen in person.  I'm delighted to have her so close.  If you attend HQ training or quilting retreats, you have probably met her as she travels quite a bit.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Sunrise Over the Horizon
Fabric:  Gelato Ombre by Maywood Studio, go here to view it, with Kona Cerise.
Size:  91" x 92"
Batting:  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton poly
Quilting:  A maze design in Cerise thread by Megan Best of Best Quilter.

Hi Myra! I gasped right out loud when I saw your finish that you shared with us today. OMG - what a beauty. The movement the gradient fabrics provide is just amazing. WOWEE. I'll bet your customer was just tickled pink when she saw it. And how cool is that to have a great resource like Megan right in your backyard?! I'll bet she will be able to give you a lot of helpful tips. Ooh, this makes me want to make one right this minute! Happy Friday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

That quilt is GORGEOUS, Myra! Wonderful use of the ombre fabrics. I'm glad you found a longarm "mentor." I definitely know what you mean -- I've been going through the same lonely learning curve on my own with my APQS machine, and it is so frustrating to be going through all of the YouTube videos (that all contradict one another anyway), trying to figure it out on your own when you know that someone who knows what they're doing would be able to tell instantly what was wrong. I hope your longarm is back soon and you're blissfully quilting away even better than you were before.
