Sweet Caroline Queen Quilt in Blue and Yellow!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing a bright and happy Sweet Caroline quilt with you!  This is a Queen size quilt set with two pillow shams.

Four Quilt Sizes

The Sweet Caroline quilt pattern includes 4 sizes - Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  It doesn't include the Baby size because the math didn't work out for that.  This is the Queen size, which is rectangular with a pillow tuck.  The pattern does not include instructions for pillow shams.  I use this book to make quilted pillow shams.

Quick and Easy with Strip Piecing

Sweet Caroline is a quick and easy quilt pattern, made entirely with strip piecing!  Also included are pressing instructions so all of the seams nest together which makes block assembly and quilt top assembly so quick.  :)  That's my type of quilt!  This quilt top was made by Joanne, one of my sewists, and quilted and bound by me.

Beautiful Blue and Yellow Fabrics

This quilt is made with Boundless Dutch Garden II, a retired fabric collection.  This collection works so well for Sweet Caroline because there are a few shades of blues, bright blue, as well as medium blue.  You'll find that many blue and white fabric collections would work to recreate this quilt.  You could also use fabrics in your stash.

Longarm Quilting

This Sweet Caroline quilt set was quilted with Wandering Rose, a digital design, on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher in bright white thread.  This design is a lovely mix of roses and feathers which I use quite often.

Custom Quilt

This quilt set is a custom order, made to my customer's specifications.  She saw the Twin size quilt exactly like this in my shop and fell in love with it and ordered a Queen size for their guest room.

Custom King Size Blooming Nine Patch Quilt in Kaffe Fassett!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Finished by not blogged in 2020 was this stunning Blooming Nine Patch oversized king size quilt in Kaffe Fassett!  The quilt top was made by Joanne, and quilted and bound by me.

100% Custom

My customer knew exactly what she was after, and we worked together at every step of the process to make it happen.  She chose the size, design, the exact fabrics for the entire quilt, approved fabric placement, and then chose the quilting design.

It is truly their quilt!

It's Huge!

They wanted a huge quilt, and they got it.  This one is 120" square.  Did you know that batting in general comes a few inches larger than the package says?  It's true, so I didn't have to piece batting together.   A King size batting package is labeled 120" square, but has a few inches to spare on each side.  This quilt is definitely the largest I can quilt on my longarm quilting machine.  The backing fabric is three widths of 44" fabric.  That's 10-3/4 yards of backing.

It's pictured on a Queen size bed, and you can see how much it drags on the floor.

Quilting Design

My customer chose Diagonal Bias Plaid for the quilting design.  Its simplicity perfectly complements the busy-ness of the fabric and creates added dimension to the quilt.  Quilting was done on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher in medium gray thread to blend into as much of the quilt as possible.

Fabrics

The entire quilt except the binding is made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics.  The binding is a solid navy.  You can find a huge selection of Kaffe Fassett fabrics right here.

I do not have a list of the exact fabrics used.

Ordering a Custom Quilt

If you are interested in a custom quilt order, please contact me.  Orders may take up to four months to complete, so please keep that in mind when placing an order.  I can only take a limited number of custom orders.  All quilts made by the Busy Hands Quilts team are heirloom quality, one-of-a-kind quilts that you won't find anywhere else and are made with the highest quality of fabrics, batting, and thread, and quilted with an amazing design.  You are free to choose everything (pattern, fabric, batting type, quilting design) or to let me decide if that is what you prefer.

Simplicity Throw Quilt Pattern - a Custom Quilt!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I'm behind at blogging and plan to get caught up over the next few weeks, so stay tuned for news on some new quilts!

This Simplicity Throw quilt was made last year as a custom order for a little girl whose mom had taken her picture on a piece of fabric every month for the first year or so.  As a memory for these precious occasions, the mom had a quilt made with the fabrics, and I got to make it!

This isn't the first time I've made quilts from fabrics used in photoshoots over a baby's first years.  This mom is a friend of the mom I've made two memory quilts for in previous years, so thus I received the referral.  You can see those quilts here and here.

Simplicity Includes all the Sizes

The Simplicity quilt pattern includes all of the sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  The larger sizes have larger blocks to make them go more quickly.  You really didn't want to make over 650 HSTs for a king size, did you?  I didn't think so.  That's why the blocks are bigger in the larger sizes.

Precut Friendly!

Simplicity is a precut-friendly quilt pattern, using charm squares in the smaller sizes and fat quarters or 1/4-yard cuts for the larger sizes.

As you can see by this quilt, using random fabrics that don't really match each other is really effective.  I would never have put that bright gold-yellow in with the other fabrics, but that fabric really brings an extra pop and brings the quilt to life!  And the goal wasn't a matchy-matchy quilt; it was a memory quilt from all of those fun, crazy photoshoots!  ✔✔

Oh That Binding!

When I have a choice, I'll choose a striped, plaid, or check binding every time, so this simple black/white stripe fabric was an easy choice.  It nicely settles the busy-ness of the quilt top and finishes it with a bit of punch, too.  ✔✔

Oh That ♥ Quilting!

The digital quilting design is Valentine by Karlee Porter, perfect for this child's memory quilt!  The thread is natural white, and the quilt was quilted on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher.

Oh That Backing!

In order to make this memory quilt even more memorable, the leftover fabric was used on the backing.  It took quite awhile to figure out what to do, but I finally settled on simple rows of each fabric, and it worked perfectly!  The backing is just as fun as the front, and I didn't think I'd ever say that about a pieced backing - I'm just a single fabric backing kinda girl!  :)  But I can sure see some little kiddos enjoying a tea party with their stuffies on this side of the quilt, too!  ✔✔

Didn't this quilt turn out just oh . so . cute??

The Simplicity quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop!

Ombre Gems Throw Quilt in Ombre Confetti Fabric!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

This week's custom order finish is an Ombre Gems throw quilt in Ombre Confetti fabrics.

The quilt top was made by my sewist, Kare, and quilted and bound by me.  The only way I can take custom quilt orders is to have one of my sewists make the quilt top; I'm too busy with the pattern design side of my business to make the entire quilt myself.  I have found sewists that sew even better than I do, and I have a very high standard for matching points and accurate piecing.  You have no idea how happy it makes me to be able to give them a way to earn money doing what they love to do - sew quilts!  It absolutely thrills me to do this for them!! :)  The quilts are then quilted by me with a stunning design and then bound.

Quilting Design

This delish quilting design is Wandering Spirals.  The quilting is done on my computerized longarm, a Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher.  Thread is natural white from Superior Omni.

Custom Orders

Custom orders are made to the customer's specifications, including the design, fabric selection (all layers, including backing and binding), the batting inside, and the quilting design.  Don't wait until the last minute to place an order; my schedule fills up quickly, and turnaround time can be months out.  A 50% deposit places your quilt on my schedule.

Quilt Pattern and Quilt Kit

This quilt is made with the Ombre Gems quilt pattern by Emily of Quilty Love.  You'll find the quilt pattern right here in her shop.  I love to support pattern designers to the fullest and purchase directly from them if possible.

The quilt kit is available on Etsy right here.  This kit includes the pattern, so you won't need to purchase it separately.

I just love the rainbow goodness in V&Co's Ombre Confetti fabrics!

Custom Rainbow Pixelation Throw Quilt!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Pixelation is a striking rainbow quilt pattern that is entirely strip pieced for a quick finish.  The quilt pattern includes 8 sizes - Placemat, Mini, Wall Hanging, Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - with the squares growing larger as the quilt sizes increase.  You can get this pattern in my shop right here.

This quilt was made as a custom order, and my client chose the exact colors she desired from the Moda Grunge fabric collection.  These mottled, grungy fabrics take a solid color to a whole new level of fantasticness!  She chose a kelly green for the backing and orange for the binding.  Well, actually, she said use green or orange in those two places and surprise her.  So I did!

Quilting is a stunning Maze design that adds a lovely texture to modern quilt designs.  The thread is a medium gray to be subtle against the bright colors.

I don't often make custom quilts because pattern designing and writing keep me so busy these days, but sometimes I sneak in a custom quilt when the design is one of mine as it gives me a chance to update a cover or make it in a new colorway.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Pixelation, available right here or below
Size:  63" square
Fabric:  Moda Grunge, available right here
Batting:  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton poly
Quilting:  Maze on Gratitude, my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher
