I've teamed up with Christa of Christa Quilts to offer quilt kits of Family Ties in her Gridwork fabric collection!  The fabric and pattern mesh so well together.  The kit includes all fabric for the quilt top and binding in the Throw size to make this exact quilt.  :)

This past 4th of July weekend was spent whipping up a Family Ties Throw quilt in the bright and fun Gridwork fabric collection.  This quilt is headed off to a program a distributor is organizing, and the deadline to have the quilt in the mail was only a week after I was asked to make the quilt by the distributor and four days after I received the fabric. :) Quick turnaround time, for sure!

The Gridwork fabric collection includes the neatest "graph paper" fabrics called Square Grid in four colorways, along with geometric brights in a number of colors.  The background in this quilt (and the quilt kit) is made with the Square Grid fabric in Cloud.  Check out the whole collection!  There's just so much goodness here and fabrics that would be great stash builders to have on hand for future projects.  :)

Family Ties is a Strip Pie (what is a Strip Pie, you ask?  Keep reading!) friendly quilt pattern that is entirely strip pieced for a quick finish.  There is simply no way, friend, that I would have you sew together this many squares individually.  No way.  Life really is about making more quilts, so let's make them quickly!!

The key to sewing with strip sets is that they must measure the height indicated in the pattern, or it is difficult getting the pieces to fit together down the line.  This means verifying that the way YOU sew the strips together makes the desired height.  Ya cannot trust a 1/4" presser foot to be accurate; mine is way off, so I use Diagonal Seam Tape in front of the needle to get an accurate 1/4" seam.  Even so, I always check the height of the first strip set I make for a project to be sure I've got the seam right.

What is a strip set, you ask?  It's strips of fabric sewn together, typically along the long edges, which are then sub-cut into segments.  I use this method anywhere it works in my pattern writing to save you time.

Family Ties is backed with Square Grid in Light Gray from the Gridwork collection.  This is the perfect backing or background fabric, and I can easily see a bolt of this appearing in my stash.  :)

The modern Maze digital quilting design perfectly compliments the modern Gridwork fabrics and quilt pattern and adds amazing texture to both the front and back of the quilt.  When you purchase the quilt kit from Christa Quilts, I can quilt it for you in this exact design.  I also bind quilts for customers.  :)  You can have your own replica quilt!

You'll find the quilt kit right over here.

This quilt kit is the Throw size, and this size uses nearly the entire Strip Pie when using the strips for a fun, scrappy binding.  The binding wraps up the quilt with a beautiful bow!  A Strip Pie is Benartex's version of a jelly roll.  {That's your trivia of the day!}

The Family Ties quilt kit in Gridwork is available right here.  Christa offers $5 flat rate shipping on all orders.  You'll need to purchase the pattern from my shop, as it is not included in the quilt kit, get the pattern right here.

Great collaboration! The quilt pattern really suits Christa's fabrics.
Thank you for the tip about using Diagonal Seam tape. I love my Juki but I'm struggling to achieve consistent, accurate quarter inch seams.

What a fun quilt! Like the seam tape idea, too. Such gorgeous quilting on this one! Congrats on the super fast finish!
