Ombre Mountains Throw Quilt in Botanicals!

Today I'm sharing an Ombre Mountains Throw size quilt in vibrant Botanical fabrics.  It turned out so pretty!  Colors range from teal to purples to pinks, and orange.  This quilt pattern includes 6 sizes, and the large pieces are quick and easy to assemble.

Those Vivid Colors!

The fabrics in this quilt are from the Botanical collection by Boundless Fabrics from a number of years ago.  The design is exotic floral blenders in a number of jewel and gemstone colors.  Soothing teals and blues, plush purples, vibrant pinks and reds, and opulent oranges.

I've had yardage of 16 prints from this collection in my stash for quite awhile and had an epiphany one day that they are perfect for Ombre Mountains!  So I cut all of the prints up into 1/2-yard cuts and used one of the bundles to create this quilt, and curated quilt kits from the rest of the bundles.  You'll find quilt kits in my shop right here.

The backing and binding on the quilt are also from the Botanicals fabric collection, in colors not found in the quilt top, and they blend in perfectly.

Ombre Mountains Quilt Pattern Features

This pattern includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  I've got you covered for all of the math for these six quilt sizes.  The block sizes and the number of blocks vary in each quilt size in order to end up with actual quilt sizes.

Ombre Mountains is great way to get some HST practice under your belt.  The pattern includes a table that outlines the different combinations of fabrics used in the HSTs, and the clear instructions help you keep all of the fabrics straight.

Big Pieces, Easy Piecing

The large pieces make for a fairly quick quilt.  I cut my fabrics with the Accuquilt Go! fabric cutter and took the project to the monthly church quilting group I attend.  I like to take simple piecing to work on because with all of the visiting, I tend to make mistakes in my sewing or fabric placement.  I would have completed the quilt top that day, but I didn't have enough triangles cut in one of the fabrics.  

Note, this pattern does not include instructions on cutting with an Accuquilt fabric cutter.  You would need to figure out using the cutter with this pattern on your own.

With only one block to make, piecing is simple.  When piecing the rows, I press seams toward the HSts in every other row, alternating with pressing seams away from the HSTs in every other row.  This way, when the rows are joined together, the seams nest and the pieces meet crisply.  I didn't use pins at all in assembling this quilt top, but I know that sounds awful for some of you, so pin away if you need to!

Longarm Machine Quilting

To use the least yardage as backing for this Throw size quilt, I placed the backing selvedges along the rails with the quilt top sideways.  With the quilt top turned like this, it can make some longarm designs not feasible.  

I found a design called Tuft Vines at Sew Shabby Pantos, and it ended up perfect for the prints on the fabrics and the design of the quilt.  Then thread choice becomes a quandry with a quilt with this many colors, and quilting from top to bottom of the quilt top meant that I could not change colors as the colors change down the quilt top.  I chose Superior Omni Light Mulberry 3115.  It blends in with all of the colors really well.

Woven Threads Throw Quilt in Faraway Florals!

Today I'm sharing a bright and happy Woven Threads quilt!  I love the bold, scrappy look of this quilt, and it was quick and easy to make with strip piecing.

This Woven Threads quilt is made differently than the pattern is written.  A variety of prints are used in place of the light gray, medium gray, and black in the background, and instead of a rainbow of strips running down the quilt, I used a variety of coordinating solids.  The border is also left off.

This is a really great stash-busting design with the jelly roll-sized quilt strips.

Beautiful Floral Fabrics

This quilt is made with the Faraway Florals collection by Robert Kaufman, along with Kona Cotton solids from my stash.  The prints are a variety of floral designs in many bright and happy colors, including pinks, teals, oranges, yellows, reds, greens, and blues.  I used a jelly roll to make this quilt, though it didn't require the entire roll.  A few dark green prints were left out and not used in this quilt.  

I selected coordinating Kona Cotton Solids from my stash which was kinda tricky since it requires about 1-3/4 strips to make the length of the quilt, and I didn't have very many duplicates.  I sold most of my solid fabric collection when we moved cross-country in 2023.  But it worked out!

The Woven Threads Quilt Pattern

Woven Threads includes 5 sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  This is an older pattern, and it doesn't include as many sizes as the more recent patterns that I have written, which have been trending toward 9 when the math works out for that many.  :)

This pattern is an easy strip-pieced design made with strips sewn into segments, and then sub-cut and sewn together again.  It really is quick and easy to make!

As you can see, this design would work really well for many fabric collections, as well as your scrap strip bins.  Selecting fabrics won't be stressful for this quilt.  You could even use a single color in the long strips instead of a variety like I used in this quilt.  A single color would calm the quilt down and create more cohesion, if that's what you'd prefer. 

Quilts make awesome tablecloths, and often there is a window nearby for good lighting!  :)  Now putting dishes on the quilt and actually using it a meal is whole other thing, but totally doable with the right mindset!

Longarm Quilting

The quilting design is Maze, completed on my Handi Quilter Amara in orange thread.  Yep, orange thread!  It seemed to blend the best with many of the fabrics, and even looks really nice on the cobalt blue backing.  While the design is called Maze, it looks a lot like hexies.  This is the perfect design with fairly dense quilting yet the quilt remains soft and cozy and doesn't get stiff from dense stitching.

The Good Morning Throw Quilt in Dewdrop

Today I'm sharing a Good Morning in the neutral grays and black from the Dewdrop collection!  This quilt is quick and easy to make using strip piecing, with beautiful results.  This version uses five prints plus a background fabric.  This is the Throw size quilt, and the pattern includes all of the sizes, so you don't have to do any math.

This is a quick and easy modern quilt pattern that is perfect for your family and friends who would only appreciate a modern quilt.  I think we all have someone like that in our family!  The simplicity of the design mixed with modern prints blend perfectly into the perfect gift idea for your modern peeps.

Good Morning is easy peasy with strip piecing.  Strip piecing means you won't be piecing together any individual squares, and the blocks go together quickly.  

Dewdrop Fabric Collection

This quilt is made with the grays and black fabrics in the Dewdrop fabric collection by Windham Fabrics.  All of the fabrics in this collection have small flecks of metallic gold in them for that extra sparkle.  The fabrics run across the entire rainbow in bold, beautiful colors and a range of neutrals.

The quilt in the background of the picture above is the Fire version of the Good Morning quilt pattern.  It's also made with Dewdrop fabrics, selecting the reds, oranges, and yellows from the collection, on a bold background of solid black.

The quilt pattern includes 5 sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  I love doing the math, so I do it all for you, though you do have to count pieces.  :)  This quilt is the Throw size, and it is a generous Throw, covering the entire top of this Queen-sized bed.

The quilting design on this Good Morning quilt is Diagonal Bias Plaid in white thread, completed on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher.  It's the perfect quilting to compliment a modern quilt.

Waterfall II Quilt in Island Batik Basics Foundations

I am pleased to share with you the Waterfall II quilt pattern in brilliant blues!  Waterfall II is a multi-sized log cabin quilt pattern with unique setting triangles to finish the stunning design clear out to the edges of the quilt.  There are two sizes available in the pattern - Throw and Queen size.  This beautiful pattern is perfect for making quilts to share with your family!

The Waterfall II Pattern

Waterfall II includes two sizes - Throw and Queen with unique pieced setting triangles to make the design flow out to the edges of the quilt.  Clear instructions with both text and graphics are given for fabric placement at every step of the quilt-making process.

Island Batik Basics Foundations Fabrics

Waterfall II is made with five fabrics in a single colorway, ranging from light to dark, adding in a light neutral and a dark; in this case white and black.  Of course, there are no limits to the fabric colors you could choose, and they could be from multiple colorways such as a rainbow, or red, white, and blue.

The Basics Foundations line of fabrics from Island Batik are batik tonals that work perfectly as blenders for other fabrics, or on their own, as shown in this quilt.  Batik fabrics lend amazing depth to quilts with the subtle variations in the hues in a single fabric.  This quilt is made with the Brilliant Blues colorway from Basics Foundations collection.  This colorway ranges from icy blue to the darkest of night navy, with many hues of aquas and blues in between.

Longarm Quilting

This Waterfall II quilt is longarm quilted with Double Bubble II by Patricia Ritter.  It is a digital design in medium blue thread, completed on my Handi Quilter Fusion with Pro Stitcher.  It's a beautiful design that takes on the look of the quilt top - in this case - bubbly water.

This quilt top was made by Kare Ybarra and quilted and bound by me.

The binding is the deep gray/black batik used as the sashing around the log cabin quilt blocks.

The quilt in the background of the photo above is the original Waterfall II quilt, made with Moda Grunge fabrics.

Quilt Backing

This quilt is backed with a teal Island Batik fabric, a simple and very effective backing fabric that blends in with the quilt top perfectly.  

What is the difference between the Waterfall and Waterfall II quilt patterns?
