Meet Through My Window - a star quilt pattern, looking at twinkling stars through the panes of a window. This is a really fun quilt to make!
This new quilt pattern includes 5 sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.
The Through My Window quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
Precut Friendly Quilt Pattern
Through My Window is a very versatile pattern to use your stash. You can use precut charm squares, layer cakes, fat quarters, or cut fabric from you scraps, of course. Using fat quarters results in less variety in the prints, but they are still a great option for the larger quilt sizes.
- 5" charm squares
- 10" layer cake squares
- fat quarters
- scraps
Fabric Selection
So many fabrics will be perfect for Through My Window. The key is to make sure the background fabric contrasts enough from the majority of the prints to allow the stars to sparkle. A light background fabric will also make this happen. Then have fun with the sashing fabric and consider fabrics beyond the traditional solid white, black or gray.
The quilt above with the white background is made with Dawn to Dusk batiks, available as a layer cake right here in this shop.
The Through My Window cover quilt is made with Painterly Petals by Robert Kaufman, an older fabric collection which has been recently revived. Some of the prints have been reprinted with others added. The second collection is perhaps even more stunning than the first one! Click here to see it.
For the background, I chose Kona Cotton Nautical, a beautiful deep navy blue, to capture the sparkling stars on the night sky.
The sashing and binding are made with a pindot fabric, a navy blue with tiny white dots placed randomly. Oh, how fun to think outside of the typical fabrics for sashing! Try something new, and you might be surprised at how much you like it. :)
The backing is a print from the Painterly Petals collection.
Quick and Easy Quilt Pattern
If you can make an HST - half-square triangle - you can make this quilt pattern. It's quick and easy with plenty of instructions and diagrams to break down the process step-by-step.
Pairing all of those bright, happy prints is also very fun! In general, I paired the squares with star points that had similar colors and blended with each other.
Longarm Quilting
The longarm quilting design is Ribbon Curls, perhaps my favorite design. Quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher in navy thread which blends perfectly into the quilt top and backing.
