Today I'm sharing the Quilty Cabins quilt pattern!  Quilty Cabins is brand new and in the shop today.  We've sewn up several samples of this timeless yet modern log cabin heart quilt, and today I'm sharing the Americana version in Picadilly!

Quilty Cabins is an easy log cabin heart quilt pattern.  The Quilty Cabins pattern features hearts centered inside log cabin quilt blocks.  Piecing is very simple as I've broken it down into step-by-step instructions, and before you know it those seemingly random pieces become a heart in the middle of the blocks.

Quilty Cabins is experienced beginner friendly, uses fat quarters or your scraps, and comes in multiple sizes.

Quilty Cabins Quilt Pattern

Quilty Cabins features the traditional log cabin quilt block with a heart pieced in the middle of the block.  Those hearts pair perfectly with log cabin blocks.  It took quite a bit of figuring to get that heart to be shaped like a heart and to be centered in the quilt block, but the result is ready for you!

Quilty Cabins is very stash friendly - perfect for FQs and your scrap bins.  It's written for fat quarters but also includes a chart that details how many of each piece size you'll need to cut if you're cutting from your stash.  I aim to do all of the mathy figuring for you scrappy quilters, too, so you can get right to cutting and sewing instead of trying to figure out how many pieces to cut.

As an added bonus, the Quilty Cabins quilt pattern includes two layout options - Traditional and Offset - for two different looks.  This quilt is the Offset layout which creates waves down the quilt, along with offset hearts.

All the Quilt Sizes!

Quilty Cabins includes multiple size options!  You can sew up any of the following sizes using the pattern:

  • Baby - best with scraps
  • Throw - 13 fat quarters
  • Twin - 22 fat quarters
  • Square Queen - 28 fat quarters
  • Long Queen - 33 fat quarters
  • King - 39 fat quarters
Of course, fat quarters aren't required, and you can use your scrap bins, following the chart inside the pattern that shows how many of each piece size to cut.

Easy Log Cabin Quilt Pattern

Quilty Cabins is an easy log cabin heart quilt pattern.  It's experienced beginner friendly for those who have a few quilts under their needle.  If you can sew an accurate 1/4" seam, you can make up this quilt.

My quilt patterns include detailed labeling and counting of the pieces at the cutting stage, so that when you sit down to sew, you know exactly which pieces to grab and you can just sew.  Who wants to sit down to sew only to have to count pieces??  Hmm, no one raised their hand!

Beautiful Red, White, and Blue Fabric

These stunning fabrics are from the Picadilly fabric collection by Amanda Castor for Riley Blake Designs.  What I love so much about this collection is the varying hues of blues - from a medium gray-blue to delft blue, and on to navy, with a splash of gray for good measure.  Prints include stars, dots, bandana, cathedral windows, fireworks, and a tiny floral.

Picadilly is available at Fat Quarter Shop and on Etsy.

The backing and binding on this quilt are also from the Picadilly fabric collection.

We have ordered a stunning star wide back from the Picadilly fabric collection to add to The Wide Back Shop and will be stocking it soon.

Two Layout Options - Traditional and Offset

The Traditional layout results in a traditional log cabin design with square blocks of logs.  Go here to see samples of the Traditional layout.

The Offset layout - which this quilt is made with - results in waves cascading down the quilt and the hearts offset from each other.  Two unique looks, both included in the quilt pattern with detailed instructions on how to make it all go together.

Longarm Quilting

This quilt top was made by Kare and quilted and bound by me on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher in light gray thread.  The longarm quilting design is Double Bubble.  I know you will ask!  It is such a fun quilting design that I will definitely be using on many future quilts.

So Many Fabric Options for Quilty Cabins

There are endless possibilities for fabric selection for Quilty Cabins.  The medium-to-dark hues of this quilt stand out against the white background, and a lighter print is added to create a bit of pop.  As long as the majority of prints are darker than the background fabric, it will all work.

The fabric style determines the feel of the quilt - Americana, modern, traditional, reproduction, sports-themed.  So many options!
