Quilty Cabins Wall Hanging / Baby Quilt in Sincerely Yours!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

It's one month until Valentine's Day!  Today I'm sharing the perfect Valentine's Day quilt that I finished yesterday.  This is Quilty Cabins.

Quilty Cabins is a long cabin quilt design with a heart pieced right into the blocks. There is no applique in this quilt; it is made with traditional piecing.  This pattern is Fat Quarter friendly and includes 6 sizes so you can make just the size you want.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

I am using this quilt as a wall hanging and it is made following the Baby size instructions.  It measures approximate 35" square.

In January of 2024, I began hosting a Quilty Cabins Quilt Along with my newsletter subscribers, and this is the quilt I began making along with them.  Just after beginning the QAL, I had to head west to help my parents and was gone for almost three months, so the QAL was canceled, and my quilt blocks were stored away.

Yesterday I assembled the blocks and quilted and bound the quilt top and am sharing it with you today, one month before Valentine's Day!

Oh, Those Fabrics!

This quilt is made with the Sincerely Yours fabric collection by Sherri and Chelsi of A Quilting Life for Moda Fabrics.  It's from a few years ago, and I was saving it for the perfect pattern, and that is Quilty Cabins!

The Baby size quilt is made with 5 FQs or scraps, and using scraps is the better option as using only 5 FQs would make it very difficult to keep matching pieces from touching each other.  Using a FQ bundle of Sincerely Yours, I cut just a few strips from each print so almost the entire collection is included in this quilt.  Only the light prints were excluded.

The quilt pattern includes a chart that details how many of each piece size are needed, so it's really easy to use scraps instead of fat quarters.

Longarm Machine Quilting

The digital quilting design used is Heart to Heart by Karlee Porter.  The design is stitched out horizontally, so the quilt top must be placed horizontally on the rails with the top of the quilt on the same side as the top of the hearts.  You don't want the hearts upside-down!  ♥  Thread color is Natural White, quilted on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher.

The backing is Bee Basics Heart in Red by Riley Blake Designs, available right here in the shop, and the binding is a heart print from the Sincerely Yours collection.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Quilty Cabins Throw Quilt Kit in Spiced Cider by Connecting Threads

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Quilty Cabins has been kitted in the Throw size by Connecting Threads in their beautiful fall collection called Spiced Cider!  This is a really lovely collection of peach, plum and brown with creamy accents.

The Quilty Cabins quilt kit is available at Connecting Threads.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is super sweet with a heart pieced right into the center of each block.  The pattern includes six sizes and two layout options.  The blocks can be offset to create a wave design down the quilt or placed traditionally as shown in this quilt.  This is a great stash-busting quilt pattern with the use of fat quarters.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

A Log Cabin Heart Quilt - Quilty Cabins in Dream!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing a rainbow bright Quilty Cabins quilt in the Throw size!  This happy quilt has hearts encircled with log cabin logs.  The quilt pattern includes 6 sizes and is fat quarter friendly.

The hearts are pieced into the blocks and are NOT appliqued on.  :)

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Quilty Cabins Pattern Features

Quilty Cabins includes all of the quilt sizes - 6 in all - Baby, Throw, Twin, Square Queen, Rectangular Queen, and King.  It's such a great value for your dollar, and you'll use the quilt pattern more than once.  :)

You'll love that Quilty Cabins is stash friendly!  You can use your stash of fat quarters in Quilty Cabins, or use a FQ bundle of your favorite fabric collection.

There are two layout options in Quilty Cabins.  This quilt is made in the Traditional layout where the "logs" in the blocks create a "square" design where they meet.  The second layout is Offset, in which the "logs" in the blocks create flowing waves down the quilt top.  You can see an example of the Offset layout in this blog post.

A Rainbow of Fabrics

Fabrics in this Quilty Cabins quilt are from the Dream collection by Kristy Lea for Riley Blake Designs with a background of white.  They are fun, bright prints encompassing the entire rainbow, and many are tone-on-tones which read as solids.  Then there are those cute rainbows and puffy clouds!

We carry fat quarter bundles of Dream in our shop.  Click here to see them.

The backing is a yellow sunburst wide back which is no longer available in our shop, and the binding is a blue print from the collection.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

The bright and happy quilt on the ladder in the background of the picture above is Hand Picked, also made in Dream by Riley Blake Designs.  The Hand Picked quilt pattern is jelly roll friendly, includes 5 sizes, and is stri pieced.  Click here to see the Hand Picked quilt pattern in our shop.

Longarm Quilting

The quilt design on this quilt is Double Bubble, quilted in white thread on my Handi Quilter Fusion with Pro Stitcher.  It's a fun circle design that stitches out without a lot of stitching over previous stitches, which I prefer not to happen.

This quilt top was made by one of my sewists, Kare, in August of 2022.

Quilty Cabins Quilt in Picadilly

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing a red, white, and blue Quilty Cabins quilt in the Throw size.  This quilt pattern combines log cabin blocks with heart blocks all in one!  The hearts are pieced right in, and this pattern is all traditional piecing and does not include any applique.  You can easily make it!

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern includes all of the sizes so you don't have to do any math to create the size you really want to make.  It also has two layout options for two different looks.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Ah, this is a sweet picture with the quilt hanging on the pool shed at our previous home in Washington State.  We've been in Ohio for over two months already, and we are really loving it!

The Quilty Cabins Quilt Pattern

This pattern includes two layout options - Traditional and Offset.  This is the Offset layout, with the blocks forming waves of logs down the quilt top.  Perfect for a red, white, and blue Americana quilt!  The Traditional layout has the blocks laid out in standard rows.  Click here to see a Quilty Cabins in the Traditional layout.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern includes all of the sizes - 6 in all - Baby, Throw, Twin, Square Queen, Rectangular Queen, and King.  The Full size didn't work out, unfortunately, so it's not included in the quilt pattern.

Use fat quarters from your stash or scraps from your scrap bins for a stunning scrappy quilt!

Red White and Blue Fabrics

The Picadilly fabric collection includes so many amazing prints in a number of colorways - navy, medium blues, red, and grays.  Stars, bandanas, fireworks, circles, and orange peels add a 4th of July / Labor Day feel to the fabrics.  Click here to see the Picadilly fabrics.

That quilt above on the ladder is the Good Morning quilt pattern.  Click here to see the Good Morning quilt pattern (jelly roll friendly and strip pieced for a quick and easy finish)!  It's made with the same fabrics as this Quilty Cabins quilt.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Longarm Quilting

The quilting design on this quilt is Double Bubble in light gray thread, finished on my Handi Quilter Fusion with Pro Stitcher.

The backing fabric is a print from the Picadilly collection, and the same print was used for the binding.

This quilt top was made by Kare, one of my professional sewists.

The hearts are pieced right into the quilt blocks, and no applique is required to make this quilt.  I have tried applique on occasion and have never fallen in love with it, so as of now, you won't find it in any of my quilt patterns.  Never say never, though!

Quilty Cabins Quilt Pattern - a Throw Quilt in Sweet Picnic!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing this log cabin heart Quilty Cabins quilt!  This is the quilt I made to test the pattern, and I can't believe I haven't shown it to you yet!  Quilty Cabins is a fun pattern to make. :)

This quilt is made with a fat quarter bundle of Sweet Picnic, a lovely blend of purples, teal, orangey-reds and gold with a creamy white background.  The prints are a variety of florals, ginghams, cherries, and butterflies.

Quilty Cabins comes in a ton of quilt sizes and is fun to sew up.  Even with the number of pieces in each block, it doesn't take very long to make with chain piecing to speed up the process.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

Tons of Quilt Sizes Included

Quilty Cabins includes all of the quilt sizes, so you don't have to do any math, and so you are much more likely to use the pattern more than once.  The quilt pattern includes instructions for the following quilt sizes:

  • Baby quilt size
  • Throw quilt size
  • Twin bed size
  • Square Queen bed size
  • Rectangular Queen bed size
  • King bed size

Log Cabin Quilt Blocks with Hearts

Quilty Cabins is made with sweet hearts in the middle of log cabin quilt blocks.  With a lot of figuring and re-figuring, the hearts landed smack in the middle of the block.  It's a joy to piece the blocks and see the hearts appear all of a sudden, seemingly out of nowhere!

If you love heart quilts and log cabin quilts, this is the perfect quilt pattern for you!  I've done all of the math for you, so you can grab your fat quarters, switch on some music and have a cutting session, and then sit down and sew.

Two Layout Options - Traditional and Offset

With two layout options, you have double the options to create a stunning quilt.  The Traditional layout places the blocks as one would expect in a log cabin design with the blocks lining up with the logs from four blocks meeting at their corners.  The Offset layout places the hearts half dropped and the logs create a cascading wave down the quilt top.  Both layouts are beautiful!

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

Those Sweet Fabrics

This quilt is made with a fat quarter bundle of Sweet Picnic fabrics by Riley Blake Designs with a background of creamy white.  It's a lovely collection with a number of colorways which is perfect for Quilty Cabins.

As long as your fat quarters stand out from the background, they will work great in Quilty Cabins.  This is a good pattern to use your less-than-favorite fabrics, too, as they will be well hidden in the blocks.

Longarm Quilting

The longarm digital quilting design used on this quilt is Double Bubble, one of my new favorites.  It stitches out so nicely, and I love to put round stitching on quilts to break up all of the straight edges of the fabrics.  Thread color is Natural White, quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher.

Wide Backing Fabric

This quilt is backed with Dry Brush in Cream wide backing, available in The Wide Back Shop.  It's a tone-on-tone fabric, similar to Grunge, that blends so well.

The Quilty Cabins quilt pattern is in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.
