Mountain Peaks Throw Quilt in Neutrals!

Today I'm sharing this minimalist Mountain Peaks quilt!  This quilt was sewn up last summer as a test quilt for the Mountain Peaks quilt pattern.  The fabrics have tiny flecks of metallic gold for just a bit of a splash.  :)

Mountain Peaks is an easy quilt to make.  This pattern is made with half log cabins and is a spin-off from the Waterfall II quilt pattern, with the addition of sashing between the logs.  The on-point setting with pieced setting triangles create an illusion of mountains.

The "fire" quilt in the background is also made in the Mountain Peaks design!

The Mountain Peaks quilt pattern is in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Mountain Peaks Quilt Pattern

The Mountain Peaks quilt pattern is quick and easy.  With so many blocks being identical to one another, it's really easy to chain piece at every step, speeding up the process.  You'll love how the setting triangles are made, too, which is different than the Waterfall and Waterfall II patterns.

Four Quilt Sizes!

Another great feature of Mountain Peaks is that the quilt pattern includes four quilt sizes!  Previous on-point log cabin patterns featured only two quilt sizes because that's what worked out mathematically, but the block size in this pattern made four sizes of quilts possible. Yay!  I know how much you love King size quilts, so it's great that the King size is possible with this pattern.

  • Baby quilt size
  • Throw quilt size
  • Queen bed size
  • King bed size
This quilt is the Throw size which measures approximately 59" x 79".

Yardage Friendly Quilt Pattern

Because the blocks are all made with the same fabrics, this is a yardage-friendly quilt pattern.  Typically a gradation ombre effect would be created with four or five fabrics in a single colorway, but the Fire version shown at the top of this post breaks that idea into flames.  :)  Made with yellows, oranges, reds, and purple on a background of black, it's definitely a fiery quilt.

This pattern would be amazing made with scraps, with each block different and perhaps even all fabrics in the blocks being different rather than having two strips of the same print as shown in this quilt.

Beautiful Neutral Fabrics

This quilt is made with Dewdrops by Whistler Studios for Windham Fabrics.  It's a beautiful quilt-shop quality fabric collection of tone-on-tone prints with tiny metallic gold flecks, which span the rainbow in over 20 fabrics.  For this quilt, I've chosen only the neutrals from the collection.

We have the entire rainbow of Dewdrop fabrics available for purchase in the Busy Hands Quilts shop right here.  There are FQ bundles, half-yard bundles, and one-yard bundles available.  Here's a peek!

Longarm Quilting Design

The digital quilting design used on this quilt is called Ripples, quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher in light gray thread.  The design mimics the wind blowing or rippling water.

The zebra binding is a fabric from the Dewdrop collection and is included in the quilt kits we have curated.

Yes, we have Mountain Peaks quilt kits in neutrals and quilt kits in blues!
