I changed my mind! Instead of Amy Butler love prints, I'm using Kona Cotton solids on black for the Summer Solstice QAL over at Happy Quilting Melissa! My quilt will have 9 blocks in a 3x3 layout, and each block will be made from three fabrics, every block being a different color of the rainbow. I'm making the 24" blocks in order to use fat quarters, and I'll increase the size of the quilt to a queen by adding wider borders.
These fabrics are from a repurposed quilt kit, North to South from Craftsy. This quilt kit includes Kona 2014 colors in 32 fat quarters and 6 yards of fabric and cost $59.57. That's 14 yards of fabric for $59.57 - $4.25 a yard! I ♥ to buy kits with fabrics I love when they are a super deal even if I don't ever envision making the pattern that's included with the kit. It's so worth looking at the yardage that's included with a quilt kit and calculating how much the fabric is per yard.
Another reason to check out the yardage included in a kit is often Craftsy quilt kits come with a substantial amount of extra fabric because they include fat quarter bundles {they're easy to package} and this often results in more fabric being included than is needed for the project. For instance, I bought a table runner kit at Craftsy from which I've made two projects and have enough for one or two more! You can see those projects here.
I'm super excited to be making this change from the Amy Butler Love fabrics. I really like those fabrics, but they need a different pattern to really let their beauty shine. I am envisioning an Amish-inspired quilt, and these Kona Cottons will certainly do that!

Yes you get to change your mind! And that was a great price! Love your rainbow of colors, gonna be cute!
Love those solid fabrics. And, yes, I too look for kits on sale and figure out the price for yardage. I just started following you and look forward to each post. Thanks!
Yes, I've found myself buying quilt kits that I'm sure I'm not going to make because I love the fabrics, and especially from Craftsy or Keepsake Quilting when the kits go on clearance--so much great stuff if you keep your eyes open. Love your brick Cottage Lane quilt. I've just started following you--thanks!
