Summer Solstice Quilt Along Progress + My To-Do List!

I've completed one block in the Summer Solstice Quilt Along over at Happy Quilting - eight more to go!  My first-ever curved piecing is behind me - phew!  During the cutting stage I witnessed the fabric and templates landing in the garbage can and later being rescued from the abyss.  After realizing I couldn't turn the already cut squares into HSTs instead of drunkard's paths, I put on my big girl panties, rescued the templates and fabric from the trash, and continued cutting.  :}

I sewed them using the no-pin method shown in this video by Love Bug Studios on YouTube.  The blocks were actually pretty quick to make, but I didn't notice that I was sewing 12 extras!  Not all of the pie and crust pieces are needed, but I didn't pay close enough attention to the directions and sewed them all.  Good practice anyway!

That 24" block up there took 1-1/2 hours to assemble, and I'm hoping that speeds up a bit!  Because each block is a different colorway, chain piecing does not work during block assembly, unfortunately, and each block needs pieced separately in order to keep the pieces labeled and in order.  My plan is to make 1-2 blocks per day, fingers crossed!

Here are my DP pieces waiting to be assembled.  Such pretty goodness!  Two piles go into the same block.  These fabrics are a repurposed North to South Kit from Craftsy.  Because of their great prices, I love to buy their kits and use them for something else if I don't like the included pattern!

And here's a peek at the trimming pile from the blocks for my next pattern, Falling Stars!  I'm tickled to be using the Kona Cotton Half Square Triangles I got from Craftsy!  No worries - the pattern is written for yardage since most people wouldn't have these triangles on hand.  I'm just using the stash.

Also on the schedule this week is custom quilting another quilt for Andrea.  This one is a toddler size that I'll be quilting with wavy lines with my walking foot.

My plan for this fall is to finish up a WIP in between custom quilting for Andrea each week (6 or more quilt tops to go!), along with writing the occasional pattern.  I have quite a number of quilt blocks and tops in various stages that just need completed.  My quilt shop is in need of more quilts since a number have sold over the summer.
