Today I'm sharing this Moda Grunge School Colors quilt. It's definitely on my favorite list!
School Colors is available in the Busy Hands Quilts Pattern Shop.
School Colors Quilt
I've been on a Moda Grunge kick recently, making several quilts in this super versatile fabric. The variation in colors gives amazing depth and texture to quilts that would be impossible to achieve with solids.
Stunning Two-Color Quilt
What do school colors and sports teams have in common? They generally have two colors, sometimes with an accent thrown in. My hometown colors are bright blue, red, and white. Hmm, no wonder I used these colors in the quilt! Actually, I did a little homework for my School Colors quilt (pun intended!) and discovered that red, white, and blue are the most common school and professional team colors in the United States, so I figured they would be great to feature the School Colors quilt pattern.
Quilt of Valor
School Colors would also make an amazing Quilt of Valor for a military service person!
Perfect Gift for a Graduate or a Sports Team Lover
Graduates would love to receive a quilt in their high school colors as a memory and also a practical gift to snuggle with in future years of studying late into the night doing homework or just hanging around the dorm or house. The pattern includes two sizes - Throw and Twin.
School Colors would also make an amazing Christmas gift for that guy with a favorite sports team but is so difficult to buy for. Just grab their team colors and make a special gift in their colors.

Accuquilt Cutting
School Colors is easy to cut with an Accuquilt fabric cutting system, though specific instructions aren't given in the pattern. A bit of extra yardage may be needed above the amount called for in the pattern, so allow a bit more. I cut this quilt with my Accuquilt die before sending it off to my quilt top maker, Joanne from Everybody Deserves a Quilt.
An Accuquilt Go! cutter is a great idea for your Christmas wish list!
Piece sizes are proprietary to the pattern, so you'll need to purchase the pattern to figure out which dies you'll need.
Moda Grunge Fabrics
The Moda Grunge fabrics used in this quilt are from the Seeing Stars collection. They are Grunge Stars Red 26S and Grunge Surf the Web 43S. I get my Grunge at Whittle's Fabrics in Kentucky because they have the best price on the web and stock almost every color.
I've been challenging myself to find backing fabrics that coordinate with the front of the quilt while also allowing the quilting thread to blend into the backing. It can get tricky with some quilts, but that heavenly bright blue made it so easy!
I borrow my daughter's books for photo shoots, and this time I borrowed, The Book Thief! How funny is that?
Longarm Quilting
The quilting is Stars N Loops in bright blue Superior Omni thread on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher. One more month, and I'll have my longarm machine paid off! Hoot Hoot!! I've been paying on it for 3-1/2 years.

I really like how the blocks in this one goes all the way to the edge - very modern! The colors are great too. Our highschool is red and blue as well. Have I seen this one before?
This is a really versatile pattern, Myra. Who doesn’t love a star quilt? And you’re right; it’s perfect for school colors, team colors, etc. Congrats on paying off that long arm machine!
That's a great pattern!! I wish we could get Grunge closer to home...it's a great collection.
Stunning two-color quilt. Love star quilts. I should add this pattern to my bucket list. It's gorgeous.
