Waterfall II Quilt Pattern - a Throw Quilt in Moda Grunge!

Today I'm sharing Waterfall II, a new quilt pattern!  This is a fun log cabin quilt pattern that includes unique setting triangles that echo the fabric placement in the blocks clear out through the setting triangles.

The Waterfall II quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

The Waterfall II Quilt Pattern

Waterfall II is a detailed log cabin quilt pattern that includes step-by-step instructions for piecing the blocks and quilt top.  The unique pieced setting triangles are a snap to put together as I walk you through each step.

The quilt pattern includes two sizes.  While I love to include as many sizes as possible in all of my quilt patterns, these two worked out the best mathematically.  The pattern actually does work for the Baby size, and releasing this size is on my to-do list at some point {don't hold your breath!}

    Throw Size  59" x 79"

    Queen Bed Size  99" x 99"

Fabric Selection

The idea behind Waterfall II is six fabrics in a single colorway from light to dark hues, and then adding in a very dark fabric, perhaps in black.  Blue is the universal comfort color, but any colorway would look smashing in Waterfall II.

This quilt is made with Moda Grunge, including the Basic collection, Seeing Stars, and Hits the Spot; and the exact fabric names and numbers are included inside the quilt pattern.

There are oh so many fabric collections out today that would create this same effect.  While solids would absolutely work great, a subtle tone-on-tone print creates more depth and movement across the quilt, so I favor them over solids.

Wait.  What about the Original Waterfall Quilt Pattern?

Yes!  This is the second Waterfall quilt, named Waterfall II.  The difference is that Waterfall includes two colorways on opposite sides of the quilt blocks, totaling 13 fabrics; and Waterfall II features a single colorway with seven fabrics in the blocks.  The designs are the same; the number of fabrics and their placement are different.

Below are Waterfall and Waterfall II quilt patterns so you can see the difference.

Longarm Quilting and Backing

The longarm quilting design is fairly new to me, and I find I am using it a lot.  It's Ribbon Curls, done in medium blue thread on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.  A number of thread colors would have looked great on this quilt.  Medium blue was chosen for the thread color because it blends into the backing.

The backing is a Moda Grunge Hits the Spot extra wide fabric.

The binding is the darkest fabric in the quilt top.

This quilt top is made by Kare, my professional sewist.
