I have a fun and happy quilt to share today! Gridwork is the perfect stash quilt made from jelly roll strips. Maybe you have a jelly roll rolling around in your stash, and you've been saving it for just the right project. This just may be the pattern!! :)
4 Sizes Included!
The Gridwork quilt pattern includes 4 sizes - Lap, Throw, Queen, and King - so you'll use this pattern again and again! The Baby and Twin sizes aren't included because they don't work out mathematically.
This quilt is the Throw size.
Stash-Friendly Quilt Pattern
Gridwork is a scrap-friendly quilt pattern. Even if you don't have a jelly roll in your stash, you probably have leftover strips of fabric that will work just as well. Choose fabrics that will contrast well with the background color you have in mind.
Quick and Easy Strip Pieced Quilt Pattern
Gridwork is a strip pieced quilt pattern which makes it quick and easy! You won't be sewing together individual bricks, but rather, strip sets are first sewn together and then sub-cut and resewn together. This is my favorite way to speed up the quilt-making process, and you'll find strip piecing in my quilt patterns whenever it makes sense to use this method.
Oh Those Fabrics!
I just love the Love Lily fabric collection by April Rosenthal for Moda Fabrics! This is a brand-new fabric collection just beginning to show up in shops now. Moda Fabrics provided the fabric for this quilt.
Love Lily is full of bright, happy fabrics in red, blue, aqua, green, yellow, orange, and purple in a variety of prints, including florals, dots, hearts, and even a tiny quilt design. It's perfect for Gridwork because there are very few really light fabrics in the collection which would disappear into a light background.

Longarm Quilting
This quilt top was made by my professional sewist, Kare, and I sent the quilt to myself for quilting. :) The design is Wandering Spirals in white thread, quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher. It's one of my favorite designs to use.
Quilt Binding Love
I used leftover strips from the jelly roll for a delightful scrappy binding. All of the strips are the same print, just in different colors. This worked out only because I preplanned it this way as a way to make the best use of the jelly roll.
Machine binding is always my go-to method of binding quilts because it's quick and I don't have time to hand bind quilts. The binding is attached to the back of the quilt first and then folded over and stitched down from the front of the quilt. There are a number of methods of quilt binding, and I say use whatever method works for you and your skill level with the tools that you have on hand, whether that's hand stitching or machine stitching.
