Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along Finished Quilt Parade!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Thank you to all who have quilted along in the Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along!  It has been so fun to see this quilt pattern in so many different colorways.  Today is the parade of finished quilts!

I finished two Jelly Roll Waves quilts for the quilt along.  First up is a Large Lap in mostly Scrumptious prints by Bonnie and Camille.

I made the second Jelly Roll Waves quilt differently than any of the JRW quilts I've made before.  This time low volumes were placed as the waves rather than as the background, and the prints were placed as the background which created sparkling, multi-colored gems on the edges of the waves.  The result is a truly modern quilt for a subtle splash of color over the sofa.

In no particular order, here are the seven finished quilts!

Alycia from Quilty Girl

It's great to see Jelly Roll Waves in masculine colors since we use more traditionally feminine colors so much.  I haven't seen many JRW quilts with the waves placed horizontally like this, so this quilt is doubly unique!  The pattern includes instructions on placing the waves both vertically and horizontally.

Anja Quilts

The happiest of baby quilts with organic wavy quilting.

Julie at Spud Quilting Adventure

Jelly Roll Waves looks nice with a border too and is a nice, easy way to make a quilt larger.

KatieMayToo Quilts

The quilting is wonderful on this quilt.

Lisa at Sunlight in Winter Quilts

This is the only entry with each wave a single color.  Instructions are given in the pattern to make single-color waves, but it still takes a bit of effort to wrap the brain around it.  Lisa did a great job figuring it out!

Danice at Homespun Hannah

Another quilt with the waves placed horizontally.  Danice named this Pickle Waves.  I see alligators.  :)

Quilting at the Lake

The deep gray background is spectacular.  The square patches in the border are not included in the pattern and are a great way to increase the size or use leftover pieces.

It's a wrap!  Thanks again to all who participated.

If you haven't yet purchased Jelly Roll Waves, you'll find it right here in my shop.

WINNER!

The random winner from the finished quilt linkup is Anja, with a prize three PDF quilt patterns from Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs.

Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along | Finished Quilts!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Thank you to all who have quilted along in the Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along!  Today the linkup for finished quilts opens.  It's time to see your beautiful quilts all finished up!

I finished two Jelly Roll Waves quilts for the quilt along.  First up is a Large Lap in mostly Scrumptious prints by Bonnie and Camille.

The feminine quilting really brings the quilt top to life.

Last year I traded Andrea a large box of Bonnie and Camille fabric for custom quilting, and all of the fabric in this quilt, including the backing and binding, came from that box.  Sew fun!

This quilt was made using traditional piecing, sewing one piece at a time together, because I was using strips of fabric rather than yardage.  They weren't actually jelly roll strips; they were layer cakes that had been cut into strips already.  The pattern includes strip piecing as well as traditional piecing which speeds up the process.  Either way you piece, though, it still goes together very quickly.

All fabrics in the quilt top are from Alison Glass collections - Sun Print Light and various Sun Print collections.  This quilt was strip pieced from strips of fabric using a Fat Quarter bundle of AG Sun Print Lights.

Quilting is a modern design that looks like flames or wood bark, whichever you see it as.

Backing is a black and medium gray hatch print, and the matching binding brings a striking, bold frame to the quilt.

This quilt will be for sale in my quilt shop!

Over the next two weeks we'll be assembling our quilt tops.

I don't have mine assembled yet, so I've nothing to show.  August is always a super busy month for me, and this year it's compounded with lots of pattern writing.

The winner from the first half of the blocks linkup is Lisa from Sunlight in Winter Quilts, who received a $15 gift certificate to my pattern shop, and since I am late getting this post up and the linkup for the second half of the blocks has already ended, I've selected the winner, and that's Maria from Life on the Block who also received a $15 GC from my pattern shop.

The random winner from the Quilt Top link-up will be announced on August 27th.  A random winner from this linkup will receive three PDF quilt patterns from Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs.

This here's the schedule.  Each post will be at noon:
  • July 2 - Fabric Selection - Link-up open for one week.
  • July 9 - Fabric Cutting - Link-up open for one week.
  • July 16 - Half of the blocks - Link-up open for two weeks.
  • July 30 - Half of the blocks - Link-up open for two weeks.

Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along | Making More Blocks

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

The Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along is moving right along.  We've got half of our blocks made, and over the next two weeks we'll be making the rest of the required number of blocks for the size of quilt we're making.

This is my Alison Glass blocks.  It's a very unique look indeed with the waves made from low-volume prints which are typically used as the background fabric.

Below is a second set of blocks I've made.  This is Bonnie and Camille Scrumptious with a few prints added.

The winner from the Fabric Cutting linkup is Alycia who received a $15 gift certificate to my pattern shop.

Because the link-ups end only at noon and the next post comes out at noon {I can't figure out how to make them end at a different hour}, the winners of giveaways will be announced at the next link-up.  The random winner from the previous Half of the Blocks link-up will be announced on August 13th.

  • August 13 - Quilt Tops - Link-up open for two weeks.
  • August 27 - Finished Quilt Parade - Link-up open for four weeks.

Jelly Roll Waves Half of the Blocks

Over the next two weeks, make the rest of the total number of blocks you need.

It's your turn to share your blocks!  Please do not give away piece measurements with your pictures.   This link-up will be open through noon pacific time on August 13th.

Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along - Cutting Fabric

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

It's not too late to join the Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along!  First, you'll need the pattern if you don't have it already - get it right here.  Today is the Fabric Cutting step of the Jelly Roll Waves Quilt Along.

Read about the prizes sponsored by Meadow Mist Designs and myself right here.

Because the link-ups end only at noon and the next post comes out at noon {I can't figure out how to make them end at a different hour}, the winners of giveaways will be announced at the next link-up.  The random winner from the Fabric Selection link-up will be announced on July 16th.

This here's the schedule.  Each post will be at noon:

  • August 13 - Quilt Tops - Link-up open for two weeks.
  • August 27 - Finished Quilt Parade - Link-up open for four weeks.

Jelly Roll Waves Fabric Cutting

Grab your jelly roll or yardage and get yer fabrics cut!  Let me know if you have any questions about how to cut your fabric a certain way to create the look you're after in your quilt.  The pattern includes a few ideas, but you may have something else in mind.

I am using strip piecing for one of my JRW quilts, using all Alison Glass prints.  The light fabrics are from the Sun Print Light collection, available as a FQ bundle right here.  The bright prints are from 2016 and 2018.  These quilt blocks will be completely different than any other JRW quilt I've made; the light fabrics will be the waves and the bright fabrics will be the jewels {or crescent rolls!}.  This quilt will be strip pieced, and each light fabric is paired with a matching bright print, so the jewels will be multicolored and hopefully sparkle like jewels!

It's your turn to share your cut fabrics!  Please do not give away piece measurements with your pictures.   If you are still selecting fabrics, you can post your selections here, but only entries of cut fabrics will be entered in the giveaway drawing.  This link-up will be open through noon pacific time on July 16th.

If you need help with linking up, Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs wrote a detailed blog post on this very subject.  Hop on over here to read it.

Jelly Roll Waves Ideas

You will find previously posted inspirational images of Jelly Roll Waves quilts in this blog post.  I have become obsessed with making blocks and have two sets to show you for additional inspiration.

Hanging on my design wall are the blocks for a Large Lap size in Scrumptious by Bonnie and Camille with a couple of other prints tossed in.  The background is Kona Snow.  This one is traditionally pieced {piece by piece sewn together} with a layer cake that had previously been cut into strips.  The consensus on Instagram was random fabric placement rather than grouping the fabrics by color in each wave.  I'm glad I did it this way; I like it a lot!

The second set of blocks I'm making are from Alison Glass prints.

It's your turn to share your fabric selection!  This isn't for blocks or cut fabric like I showed for inspiration.  Share your delicious pile of fabrics with us so we can pet it with you!
