Nautical News Twin Quilt | Finished or Not Friday Linky Party!

My Finish is a twin size Nautical News quilt for my niece!  She made the quilt blocks, and I assembled and quilted it for her.

Nautical News is a pattern of mine.  It includes 6 sizes from Baby to King, including two Lap sizes since people come in different sizes too!  This is a layer cake friendly pattern.

Backing is a Robert Kaufman print that I stock in my pattern shop.  Quilting is Wandering Spirals which resembles waves!

This version of Nautical News leaves the sashing off between the blocks.  The pattern includes sashing.

We've had some fantastic fall days here, perfect for a shot on the clothesline!

Button Letter Wall Art {A Ladies' Afternoon Project!}

I had a recent craft day with my mom, sisters, and sister-in-law.  We made button wall art with the initials of our last names, using this pin as our inspiration.  Can you guess which one is mine?  :)

You got it - mine is a rainbow!  Of course!  I got my rainbow of buttons at Craftsy!  It's fun to cruise Craftsy to find great deals on lots more than fabric!

Alfalfa is a superfood that helps reduce water retention without depleting necessary body nutrients.  It's also known for reducing acidity (increasing alkalinity) and improving skin health which makes it a good addition to a weight loss program by potentially tightening excess sagging skin.  I used it last year during my weight loss stint with great results, and I was able to begin wearing knit skirts (smoother skin) and plan to start it again since I have been losing weight!  This is a great time to try Alfalfa along with Body Brushing the T-Tapp way.

Passing on the Crafting Gene #2 - Beginning a Dress

Millie is learning how to shorten a pattern for the more petite amongst us!  We are using this pattern.  A few years ago when the Maxwell Family came to town, Millie and I attended a Mother/Daughter Tea that they hosted, and the Maxwell ladies wore matching pretty, feminine, modest dresses, so I asked them for the pattern number.  They were asked so often about their dresses that they had the number memorized!  We're finally getting around to making one, about four years later!
This day the power was out for six hours beginning at noon, and oh my, what to do then?!?  No sewing, no blogging, no Etsy-ing, no cooking or baking!  We are amazingly locked into our habits that require power and had to find something that didn't take electricity, like cutting out a pattern!  We didn't cut the fabric out with the pattern because there was no power with which to iron the fabric!  There was also time to play some games!

Passing on the Crafting Gene - Millie and I Make Pillow Covers!

Passing on the Crafting Gene is a new series here at Busy Hands Quilts.  Sometimes it is too easy to let moments, days, months, no, it's years slip by without taking time to share with our kids the skills we have.  It's called living intentionally - making a sincere effort to do what we wished we had spent more time on when we're old and looking back at our life.  I am aiming to do that more.  For me that means scheduling in a set time every week when Millie and I do something crafty together.  Friday afternoons work well for us because it is our "light" homeschooling day since we have homeschool soccer in the late morning, and all school work is done before we go.  This is what we made last week.
Isn't she just precious?  And, yes, in case you're wondering, she is taller than me by a whopping three inches!!!  Did you know she is only 12?
That delicious lime green is on two of her bedroom walls.  It is so refreshing!
Her pillow is made from fabric she collected for her rainbow room.  She has the suspicious gene of being addicted to fabric {gasp!} and I now hear myself saying, "You'll need to buy that with your own money, honey!"  She is so excited to have completed a project from her fabric stash.  
My hope is that she will become familiar with and addicted to the feeling of completing projects and make this a habit in her life, rather than beginning projects and setting them aside unfinished. Completing projects has always been a hardship for me, and I have only learned to persevere to the end in very recent years.  So blogger friend, if you don't know how to quilt a quilt, or bind a quilt ... just do it, get off the computer, jump in and learn it and finish those quilt tops you have begun!  It is such a confidence booster! My pillow cover is Keep On and Quilt On by Timeless Treasures.  It was a "couldn't resist" purchase this fall at a local quilt shop sale, and I actually had a plan for it when I bought it, which I cannot say about many fabric purchases.  I used fusible fleece to give mine more stability since I intend to use it as a seat cushion in my sewing room.
And the quilt on which the pillows are resting is Millie's Rainbow Wave Quilt which I made earlier this year. Pillow Stats:
