The Scrappy Goodness quilt pattern is the perfect pattern to use the bright and happy solid fabrics from your stash! Grab those solid jelly rolls or solids scraps that you've been wondering what to do with and pair them with Scrappy Goodness!
The Scrappy Goodness quilt pattern includes most of the sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Queen, and King. Only the Twin bed size didn't work out mathematically.
This is the fourth month in my commitment to making a new quilt in a previously-released quilt pattern each month. In case you're keeping track (I am!!), three out of the four months have been on time, and one was one week late.
To be fair, I did have a head-start on this quilt though, and it wasn't begun and finished this month. I had made the blocks a year or two ago (can't remember!), and they only needed joined together and quilted and bound; so that's why October's finish is so early in the month. It's finished! YAY!
So Many Quilt Sizes
This is a multi-sized quilt pattern, which the goal for all of my quilt patterns when it works mathematically. The instructions include the following quilt sizes:
- Baby 48" x 48" uses 32 jelly roll strips
- Lap 48" x 64" uses 42 jelly roll strips (perfect for one jelly roll, may need to add two strips)
- Throw 64" x 80" uses 70 jelly roll strips (perfect for two jelly rolls with the extra strips for binding)
- Queen Bed Quilt 96" x 96" uses 126 jelly roll strips (perfect for three jelly rolls)
- King Bed Quilt 112" x 112" uses 172 jelly roll strips (perfect for five jelly rolls with the extra strips for binding), and that's a super big quilt!
Those Happy Fabrics!
Because these blocks sat in my WIP (work in progress) bins for so long, I am not totally sure what the fabric collection is. In the time that has passed since these blocks were made, I have begun leaving the fabric labels with projects that end up on hold in the WIP bins. I am pretty sure it was two jelly rolls and not fabric from my solids scrap bin, because I don't think I would have put these colors together myself - and they do work beautifully together, indeed! So, the assumption is this is made with Boundless Solids jelly rolls or a repurposed quilt kit.
The accent chains and binding are made with Kona Cotton Charcoal. That part I do know!
There is a message in this quilt. Even less-than-favorite solids can shine with other solids in the right quilt design!
The backing fabric is Widescreen in Gray, available in
The Wide Back Shop on our website. This backing is perfect for so many quilts and is the most commong backing used on my quilts.
Scrappy Goodness quilt pattern features
The Scrappy Goodness design includes an accent color that echoes across the quilt top in an on-point square design. The placement of this chain varies in the blocks to create a symmetrical design.
The instructions include pressing instructions so that many seams in the quilt top nest, so using pins is more optional. I did find that with rotating the blocks to achieve balanced color placement, that some of the seams ended up no longer nesting. I went rogue, though, and still didn't pin these seams, because the blocks were fitting together nicely without the seams nesting and without pins.
This truly is an easy quilt pattern to make. It does take a little more time to make the blocks with a bit of seam ripping and careful attention to the pattern to make sure the fabrics end up in the right places, but as you can see, it's so worth it! ♥
Longarm Machine Quilting
This Scrappy Goodness quilt is quilted with light gray thread in a design called Hexi or Hex Marks the Spot (both names show up in my files), on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher, Gratitude. I love the way this design quilts out, and I had kinda forgotten about it in recent months, so it was great to use it again.
